Weathering ties - before or after ballast?
I'm using Micro Engineering Code 83 track and want to weather the ties with some different colors. Your opinion please if I should do the work before or after ballasting. I plan on painting some of the ties different shades of grey and brown. Thanks.
Promoting MRH?
Joe,
I was thinking it would be nice to post a poster about MRH in my local hobby shop.
Do you have an 8.5x11 promo poster that people can print and put up?
Also Rick Wade was asking in another thread about some badges to print and wear to trains shows.
What are your thoughts on this?

January 2014 issue status
The January 2014 issue of MRH is due to be released today.
The magazine is just now completed and tested, but it does take a few hours to generate all the editions and upload everything.
We expect to release it by approximately 10 am Pacific time - it's 4:30 am as we write this.
Garden rails?
MRH covers a ton of stuff relating to model railroads, and I love it. However, I never see anything about garden railroads. I know, there's a magazine for that, and stuff online..but there is for my HO scale too, so....
Now, I have the wife half-talked into letting me do a garden railroad (especially after she saws Ken's great snow-removal video in the latest Dec. issue. SO COOL! How about some 'intro-level' stuff on this subject?
Zipping into Zip texture
Today I ordered powdered tempra pigments used with plaster to make zip texture. I've never used it before but I really like the idea as shown in Joe's videos along with others. I don't know when it will arrive as they were out of black. I'm a long way from using the materials but I wanted to have them on hand.
Penn Station, NYC on PBS
On Feb. 18 at 9PM Eastern Time, PBS will be airing on their series The American Experience, The Rise and Fall of Penn Station.
What a civic crime it was when the PRR demolished this grand structure to be replaced by the non-descript Madison Square Garden.
Where do I find the forum for pictures?
In the December 2013 issue in the Notes from MRH Staff column I find this statement: "For Yes, it’s a model, ever wonder how we choose the photos or where we find them? Most of the photos used come from the regular weekend photo fun threads on the MRH forum."
I am a subscriber but I cannot find the subject forum or the named threads. What should I be looking for?
