MRH Magazine general discussion

May issue of MRH coming tomorrow
The May 2018 issue of MRH magazine releases to the website tomorrow.
We're running a bit behind because I elected to make some good progress on my Rolling Stock book early in April, eating into the magazine production a bit.

New Best of MRH paperback books coming
Starting this summer, we will begin releasing a new paperback book series called: the Best of Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine.
Each volume will be a different topic. Volume 1 will be articles on trackwork.
More in the following post.

MRH DCC columnist retiring
It's not April Fools -- Bruce Petrarca, the MRH DCC Columnist, is retiring as of the August 2018 issue.
Bruce is also doing a DCC book for MRH, which we will publish.
But that's it for Bruce. He's going to focus on doing the hobby for himself and his local club -- the nerve of some people! (wink)
So, we're on the lookout for a new DCC Columnist! If you're interested, please use this link to express your interest and send your background details for why you feel you might be qualified to be our new DCC columnist:
Mildly offended discovering religious references in the mag.
I've subscribed to this fabulous magazine since it started and it's just now I've noticed reference of glory to a god.
I'm unsure what one exactly, but I'll guess it's the Judeo - Christian one.
Does this magazine have any connection to a religious organisation?
Because if it does, I'm unsubscribing because religion and people acting on behalf of it have brought me some bitter memories in the past and I will want no part of it.
Model Railroading is my happy place.
sincerely,
S.C.

Sunsetting the Embedded Edition with issue 99
Adobe PDF reader only plays videos if you have Flash installed. Most mobile devices don't use Flash so the Embedded Edition is worthless -- it's a huge file that just eats up more space and doesn't do anything more than the Standard Edition.
Adobe is likewise sunsetting Flash Player -- it's not even part of Adobe Reader any longer. Before we start getting a lot of support questions about "why won't the video play?" we're going to just get ahead of the problem and end the Embedded Edition with issue 99 (May issue).

Request an Article.
I figured I'd start this thread, seeing how MRH is one of the few magazines out there where owner and staff all read these forums. (Let's see Time Magazine take requests!)
What sort of articles would you like to see in MRH?
Personally, I'd love to see some articles on building older kits. Not just structures, but car kits, or loco kits. Like someone take an old kit (eBay find, or the back shelf at the hobby shop) and just do a step by step build. Maybe give a bit of history on who made the kit, when it was availible, and tips on building it.

"Blogs" vs. "Discussion Forums" ???
I don't know what the difference is in the "owner control" in the two features at this site, but as one that has only been active here for about a month, I was surprised to find a lot of topics in the "blogs" that I would have expected to find in the "discussion forums".

MRH needs a wikipedia entry
Model Railroad Hobbyist needs someone who is Wikipedia-savvy to create a page for Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine on Wikipedia.
We cannot create this page ourselves, nor can we pay to have it created because that is a conflict of interest.
We need an unaffiliated third party who is Wikipedia-savvy to create the page for us.
