HOW TO use a swivel knife in an actual model railroading project

Has anyone seen an article or video of HOW TO use a swivel knife in an actual model railroading project. I know they are used in leather making but I don't see how to use them in Model Railroading. I heard that they are used in Model Railroading though.

Thanks

Roger

I figured out what Walthers Goo actually is.

I had to replace the thermostat in my car a while back.  Someone recommended Permatex Super High Tack Gasket Sealant #80060 for the thermostat gasket.  I'm pretty sure that stuff is Walthers Goo.  Same color, same texture, same smell, both claim the same maximum temperature, both have the same instructions for use and the same cure times, etc, etc, etc.  It is the exact same stuff.  Only difference is it costs about 25% less for twice as much and is available at the Auto Zone a few blocks from my house.

Spray booth

I am starting to build my spray booth and a thought crossed my mind, OUCH! Oh, has anyone built a booth with a down draft ? I other words I am thinking of mounting the fan under the desk and then venting it through the wall. This would give me easy access to the fan when need be and free up space above the booth giving me more room for paint storage. Any body tried or have good or bad thoughts about it?

Superelevation for a branch line (cheap and easy method)

I needed to find a simple way to super elevate the curves on my small branch line to a scale 3 inches. Yes, that’s right, only 3 scale inches!

After researching several different options (some quite involved), I decided using poster board might be a good option. So, off to my trusty local Hobby Lobby to investigate.

Air compressors

Well I am slowly re-entering the hobby. I got up the courage to modify a diesel shell with some basic details. I am now ready to paint. I haven't used my air brush in probably 10 years. I am nervous. I used to use a small oil-less compressor and an air pig. A year or so ago a 10 gal compressor came on sale at Canadian tire at a price I couldn't pass up. Thing is it uses oil. I am unsure what this means beside the fact I have to make sure the thing has oil in it before I run it. I bought it and never used it and now am nervous about tackling this paint job.

3rd PlanIt Demo

Help! I just installed the 64 bit demo version of 3rd PlanIt (ver 10) and there are no libraries on my computer. Is this a limitation of the demo version, or did the install fail? Any help is appreciated. Thanx.

Anybody had etchings made?

I throw this out there even though I've seen Rob Teed noted a system to etch circuit boards. Hawaii is a hard place to get enchant or actually chemicals of any kind.

Below is a guardrail detail from the Private car of the Oahu Railway and Land Company built for the creator B.F. Dillingham. Are there companies that can reproduce this from a scale drawing or would you attempt it at home?

Clear plexiglass edging protection

Ever wonder how to stop those sharp edges on clear Plexiglas edging on model railroad layouts?   Try clear car door edging strips available at automotive departments/stores in your area.

Layout lighting

All of the new layout lighting options leave me befuddled.

I have a 14x28 foot basement space, with a 7-foot ceiling and the floor joists above running in the 14-foot direction. Layout height will be 4 feet, plus or minus 6 inches.

Balancing cost and appearance, what's the best way to supply clear, even lighting in this space. We're modeling the Intermountain West, so clear, bright daylight is essential.

Fluorescents? Incandescent? CFL? LED?
