Adding Sound Decoder to Brass Shay Loco

I am planning to add a Tsunami Sound Decoder (TSU-750) with a QSI  8 Ohm Speaker to my HO United Brass 2- Truck Shay.  I checked out the DC power transfer from track to motor.  The front and rear set of trucks are separately isolated by left and right track power to the motor, as they should be, - however the frame also has electrical continuity from THIS right side power pick-up.  I am removing the old open frame motor and will is

West Haven Industrial Rwy. : Making Tracks

In a recent topic, I posed some questions on the size of ties for the handlaid portion of the layout. (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/27181) All my turnouts will be built on PC board ties. This is for economic and practical purposes. I find handlaid turnouts to be superior in operation to commercial turnouts, though I have no experience with Walthers or Micro Engineering turnouts.

Time for some ground cover

The track next to the storage facility/parking garage is buried right to the top of the ties. So that was tonight's project.

Heres the location.

Junk Dealer is pretty much done!

This part is done, at least for now! There is still some details that will need to be added but I will move on to something else, the paper recycler behind.

the tree have just been inserted and are not glued in place, it was only to get a feel for the view.

Below are pictures of the scene complete with cars!

Digitrax vs TCS mobile decoders

I am planning on purchasing several decoders to upgrade my locomotives to dcc. The engines are dcc ready, so its just a matter of plugging the harness into the nmra socket. My question is one manufacturer more realiable than the other, or are they both equal in performance? I am using a Digitrax command system.

DCC Decoded: The tale of two engines

Matt Herman from ESU discusses the nuances of prototype locomotive sound, and how variations in decoder settings can keep your layout room from becoming a sound chamber of monotony.

More building work

While this building isn't rail served, its such a key element in the overall concept of what I am building that I had to include it. This is the building. It's an indoor storage facility and also a parking garage that the railroad runs right next to before it crosses W North Ave and the railroad bridge over the North Branch Canal onto Goose Island.

This is my version of this structure.
