Reading RR drip strips
Any ideas for Reading style drip strips on "N" gauge diesel? Any way to add them without messing up the paint?
Morton Salt
So my next scratchbuilding project....the Morton Salt plant in Chicago. Its not technically on Goose Island but close enough. Looking at the pictures, I don't think it will be that difficult to build. And I have the perfect spot for it.
Foil Tape corrugated siding?
Has anyone tried using the foil tape for furnace ducts as corrugated siding? I stuck some on a cardboard mock up today and ran a comb down it and it seems to have possibilities.Appears to stick pretty well and is easy to cut with scissors. Would need to figure out how to keep the corrugations straight and plumb as the siding is scribed and applied....DaveB

HO scale deadrail operation
So I'm thinking about using the dead rail option for my HO scale layout, and im wanting to know what company or kit would be best to use for this. I am planning on installing the first one into a Bachmann HO GE 70 ton switcher. Thanks in advance for the help.

Help with loco gear noise
I've been messing around with my Bachmann On30 4-6-0 lately. It runs dead quiet backwards but it's a growly old thing when moving forward. So I took it upon myself to take her apart to see what makes her tick. Here's what I found:
I suppose I shoulda' taken a pic when I had it open but, oh well.
Texas Northern Moving to Plano
After 15 years at the warehouse in Mesquite, the Texas Northern Model Railroad Club is moving.
You can follow our progress on www.modelrailroadclub.org. You can also see what happened to all our scenery! We need help getting the parts put back together. Come help!
After October 10, you can come by our new place in Colin Creek Mall, just outside JCPenny. Drop us a line first to see when we are open. info@modelrailroad.org
GREEN ballast
I was out west and I found what I thought was some excellent tan/gray ballast. So I sifted 8 gallon containers of the stuff. When I went to use it on my layout my operators commented on the "pretty" green ballast. Ug! It is not the lighting or the glue that I use it is just green--I guess I am more colorblind that I thought.
Does anyone know of a branchline/mainline that uses ballast that has a green tint to it? (Like Pink Lady).
I would hate to dispose of all the green ballast I have, but I do not wish to have a goofy looking layout with green ballast.

Issue with one switch using a DCC Concepts CobaltIP Digital motor
I have a stupid problem that I can't clear. I have small layout with 15 Peco electrofrog swithces - each one controlled by a Cobalt Digital motor. 14 of them are working perfectly but I have trouble with the 15th. When set straight, it causes no issues but when I set it for the siding, I immediately get a full short and my NCE Powercab shuts down. There are only three connections to the Cobalt - 2 power and one for the frog. Both exiting tracks have the required peco insulating joiners.
Would anyone have any suggestions as I am tearing my hair out?

A new comer to the Perkins Sub.
And the only operational loco at the moment! I used to have an Athearn GP35... but it was having issues so I decided to recycle it... to the 99% alcohol bath, to be reborn anew at some point in time! :-)
But... let not the fate of an ill fated loco darken the coming in this world of a new loco!
I have been working on HLCX 3857 for a number of years, on and off, mostly because I needed parts to continue the work, or was afraid to install those fragile 0605 SMD LEDs (headlights), or their smaller counterpart, 0402 (ditchlights)!
