Recommendations for starter set in HOn30
Hi, I am looking to acquire some initial rolling stock for Hn30 to try out a small layout. What I would like to purchase is something "hobby grade" that will run well at low speeds etc, and avoid purchasing "toy" items. (So for standard gauge, I would say the comparison is something like Athearn / Atlas to start.) I have seen the vintage MiniTrains (Roco?) and the newer BCH MiniTrains, Roco and others. I have seen that you can get Kato drives and assemble all kinds of things on that chassis and purchase a variety of cars. However I am thinki
Double stacking: 40' over 20' or 20' over 40'?
I always thought when double stacking containers a 40' container has to be above two 20' containers and not the other way round because of the lack of support in the middle of the larger container:
But in the same train I found several cars loaded this way:
And the winner is.......
After much discussion, and input from many, I have decided that I am going to build layout #3. Thats the one that was inspired by Lance Mindheims Downtown Spur. I like the fact that although it is a round the room layout, its not just a large oval. I also like the fact that its simple to build. No complex elevations or complex trackwork.

The path to success is littered with failures
We always see people's successes on their blogs and in their photos, but we generally don't see the stuff that didn't work or that failed along that path to success. I had one of those failures last night, and it was entirely my own fault.

News from my Modelrailway Room 11
Hello,
it's been some time since my last update of the layout. I had lost a bit of my modelling mojo, maybe because I started to put in a ceiling in my modelrailway room, it was quite messy. But I managed to film a new update from my model railway room, where I show the new ceiling and some little progress I made during the time. And I will speak about future projects.
Help with HO Scale EMD NW2 - probably BLI
All, I have been given an assignment to detail and paint in HO scale the Domtar 1001, an EMD NW2. This would be a late production NW2, so we have identified the probable candidate as BLI's NW2, which represents a phase V NW2. The chief spotting feature of this phase was the tapered hood down toward the front cab windows. The earlier instances had a stepped hood, like what the Kato NW2 shows.
Final travels on the Narrow Gauge Circle May 2020 (Pt 3)
Okay...Nearing the end here.
A few more things were lingering in the yard, sitting in the cool mountain air. The family was having a good time sitting and having lunch, so who was I to bother them.
It appeared it was time to service #484's tender. Up on jacks, it was quite a sight to see a "tire change" in progress.

Even Further Travels on the Narrow Gauge Circle May 2020
Morning came at 6:30 over the mountain top, although it take about 2 more hours for the sun to actually grace our shabin. We live in the shadow of three mountains, so when the sun reaches the valley of the San Luis basin, our humble little abode is still waiting for the first rays of sunlight to give us some warmth. And then the magic question was asked," What should we do today?" "Well," I said with a sly grin,"we could head south and see what lies to the west a little..
