What's your "Golden" memory of railroading?

We all have something inside us that fuels the passion. A childhood memory of railfanning or growing up and playing by the rails. Something!!! Without exception, everybody was once a newbie with no experience; nothing but some inspirational memory.

Easy Model Railroad Inventory How To #1

I was able to attend the auction held by the Tidewater Division of the NMRA this past Saturday. I was able to sell some stuff that I was not using and buy some stuff I do need. Or at least thought I needed according to my wife. I was on the lookout for 40' gondolas, and 40' flat cars. For some reason they are very hard to find. As it turned out I was able to find and buy 2 gondolas and at least 10 box cars. Maybe my wife is right!

Alcove expansion: Part 1 - removal of existing benchwork

It's not quite a "smash and burn", but it did involve a little demo!

I recently extended my alcove area by adding 7ft in depth and have been putting off removing the existing track because .....well, because then I can't run my railroad!  I needed to salvage the benchwork and track for reuse outside my trainroom once the alcove new benchwork and trackwork is installed and running through the wall.

Today I took the leap and got the job done - now I need to hurry to get the railroad operating again!

Charlie's idea on using static grass for scenery other than grass

Charlie shared an interesting technique on the "Bush Hop Field" thread  - http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/4077 on using static grass on a piece of bare copper wire and then flocking it with ground foam.  Although it doesn't look much like hops, it got me thinking about using his technique to make small (and cheap) trees & bushes.  I took some green 26 ga florist wire and multiplied it to create about 14 "limbs".  I applied the white glue and used my static applicator with a mixture of 2mm to 6mm static grass.  Once that was dried, I s

Digitrax Jump Port Technology
