E. St. Louis Rail Group

To All: This is a new blog. My name is Elvin Howland from Jacksonville, Florida (previously, Manton, Michigan). I run a business called Layout Concepts. I sell scratch built, kit bashed and kit built kits, paint and letter freight cars and build train layouts. I have a Facebook page called layout concepts that features my work in various categories. My layout is an HO scale double deck one that measures 11' by 21' and is controlled by a Digitrax system. I model 1950-1970 on the layout. The area modeled is E. St. Louis, Illinois.

Did yellow paint streak?

Ever try to figure out colors from an old B&W photo?  The information, in most cases, simply isn't there.  What is there, however, is a collection of clues - the RR only used this color in this scheme, etc.  That's what I'm trying to do here.

Look at this photo:

FREEMO signaling

Does anyone have experience with running a signal system on a FREEMO layout?

What works and what does not work? How is the best way to set this sort of thing up?

Cleaning up a motor (which should never have been dirty in the first place)

I'll never learn.  I should have known better than to assume I would not need a spare motor, just because it's too small.  I should have taken better care of it.  I didn't.

Powering a Dummy Locomotive

Hey Everyone!
I did a bit of a search and couldn't find much on this (i could find details on pulling a motor out and making a dummy though)

I picked up an old Athearn F7 dummy - I know it's probably not economically viable to power one of these, but is there really that much involved?

If i can get a motor on the cheap, and frame i assume the powered stuff will just swap over?

any info appreciated!

thanks in advance

Russ

Car float track dimentions

I want to model a Car float.  I've looked, in the wrong places, for track measurements.  I need the track measurements from where the float meets up with the apron.  I would think this should be a constant from float to float so that float could be used at various aprons.  If I don't find this measurement I'll just start making my floats with my own measurements.  Thanks for any help.
