Modeling topic

New member, layout tour.

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but here goes.  I joined a couple of weeks ago, as I really like the magazine.  Great topics, ideas, and methods.

I live in SE. WI.  I'm a retired cement finisher, so now I have the time for my trains!

The link below is a tour of my small, "L" shaped, "dog bone" layout, starting from the right to left.  I use DC and a Digitrax Super Empire Builder DCC.  NEVER both at the same time.

Found this Portable spray booth, does anyone have one?

Have a workshop, just cannot justify heating the shop just to spray paint in the winter. My layout is in my basement as I will just be using acrylic paints, thought this would be a good purchase for down there inHO.

Brick Floquil Paint

Hello,

I'm new to MRH and so far it looks like a great site full of information and tips.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has a suggestions on what to use for red brick paint. I'm building a station for a friend, but I can't seem to find any good-looking brick paint. I have some Tamiya flat red paint but that is far too red to look anything like brick.

Track Plan

Someone asked for a track plan of my 22nd Avenue Secondary so I whipped one up. Yes, it is drawn in Microsoft Paint. Don't judge.

All track is Atlas Code 83 Sectional. All curves are 18" radius. Turnouts are as noted. I don't know the exact geometry of the wye turnout but it is somewhere near a #5. That is a 19 degree crossing near the center.

Narrow gauge on the Texas Western Model Railroad

I had promised to show more of the Texas Western Model Railroad layout and this time I will take a trip to Colorado and New Mexico for a little narrow gauge.  The standard gauge interchanged with the narrow gauge at Alamosa and much of the track there is 3-rail as it was in the prototype.

101 Track Plans

While cleaning and sorting through the usual modeling clutter over the holidays, I came upon a 101 Track Plans for Model Railroaders by Linn Westcott and started flipping through the pages. This is the fifth printing printing (1967).  I had the fourth printing (1963) but lost it while pursuing one of the many paths that life brings .

Anyway, I got to thinking about how many of Linn Westcott's track plans have been started, built and/or finished throughout the years.

So here is the question I am posing to the readers out there:

HOn3 Layout

Hello,

here is a video from my new HOn3 exhibition layout 'First Snow on the High Line'. The visible part of the layout is only 2 x 0,5 m (approx. 3.28’ x 1.64’).

Overhead lighting options - types and temperatures

I've recently decided to temporarily suspend work on my layout before I got too far along in order to fix up the mostly unfinished basement space where the layout is located - patch & paint the drywall and install a suspended ceiling (2x2 grid).  At this point I'm trying to decide on the type of lighting to use.  Initially, I was thinking of using drop-in fluorescent fixtures with twin daylight T8 U-bulbs (6 fixtures), like so:

Wet water using soap. which method to use isopropyl alcohol?

Ok, from what I've read, 2 drops of liquid soap to 1 cup of water makes wet water. dish or laundry soap?

I've read online that some people use isopropyl alcohol mixed with water as well to help with the absorption of glue. what is the mixture ratio for that? 50% of each?

This will be used for landscaping and ballasting.

What works best?
