My Future Layout

UnDcc a loco

Was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove a DCC decoder from a loco and make it DC. I just purchased a Life-Like Proto 2000 GP-9 II Central Vermont hard to find.I run DC and have over 30 locos all nonDCC except 2 which are Atlas w/sound, their Quantum engineer, with a controller for sound. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against DCC, it's just the cost for decoders and new controls is way more than I care to spend. I would prefer to  spend my money on more locos, cars, layout.

LAYOUT FIT TO SPACE

Designing layouts has many different approaches.  Mine was I had a space 20 x 50 ft that was built for a model railroad HO and how was I going to fit RR into the space.  First the overall design I had seen some were else.  But I had more space and plans for a lot more staging.

In this picture you are looking at Silverville on left and Rock Ridge on Right.

Tyco 2-8-2 Steam Locomotive Kit

I need suggestions.  I very gratefully received a Tyco 2-8-2 steam locomotive for Christmas.  I have searched the internet for blogs or examples of people putting together one of these, buy have failed.  I would like to build it, into a reliable model, so I'm asking for help.

Backdrop painting - your opinion please

O.K. - please be honest and tell me what you think about this backdrop sample I painted earlier this morning.  I used cadmium yellow and mars black mixed to make the colors.  If using a computer you can click on the images to get a larger view.

For this first view I stuck it up behind the Buck & Loretta scenery.

For this next view I stuck it behind a siding on the opposite wall.

Coming straight out of a turnout

In my progression to figuring out how to do all of this, I am using XTRKCAD to get a more final layout. Having said that, I don't think this question is software specific. Hopefully its not an incredibly obvious answer.

I am creating turnouts, and when I come out of those turnouts I want to have a track that runs parallel to the original track (I'm creating a passenger station). How do I calculate the proper radius turn to come out of a turnout so that the resulting track will run alongside the track that you have turned out from?

crossing templates

I am looking for 22.5 and 30 degree crossings templates that I can print and test on the layout.  I tried FastTracks without success.

Anyone know of a site?

Thanks...Ken
