Signals For Your Railroad.
You want to put signals on your layout. Stop and think. I was reading a very good article about signals in the DO magazine. LIGHT BULB turned on.
I suffer from red pimentos. To make it simple my wife has always took me what color tie to wear with my suits and dress shirts. You know guys.

Cornhill & Atherton - Vezmar Mine to Redpale Creek
Mortimer is finished and this is the next episode in the C&A saga - Vezmar Mining and Redpale Creek.
This section spans the window wall on the upper deck and links Spangler Gap to the outskirts of Atherton.
Charlie Comstock turnout jig and tutorial
After watching Charlie Comstock's tutorial on building turnout using homemade frog jigs and pc ties, I attempted my own version. I have just finished the first no. 5 turnout for a turning wye. The jig worked just as shown in the video. Charlie recommended using Rolly Holders from Railway Engineering. I ordered a set for code 83 rail and after a two week wait they arrived by mail with postage due (probably why it took two weeks). They are an excellent tool for track alignment and work better than three point gauges for laying turnout track.
Bachmann 0-4-0 Porter Short Circuit
Hi Guys,
I was messing around with my On30 Bachmann 0-4-0 Porter, running it on my newly laid track. It's a simple layout, 2'x4' with an oval and two switches. I soldered a set of feeder wires to the layout from my other layout, so they share the same main power wires. I have a Digitrax Zephyr. I only have one other HO locomotive.
Questions on athhearn blue box switcher locos
I have a couple questions regarding vintage athhearn blu box locos
these particular ones are switchers of varies body types but the chassis and gear drive setups seems to be of two types regardless of body shell. I am guessing one types is older than the other.
one type has an aluminum (I think) flywheel and a "split" gearbox which comes apart down the centreline and whose "truck details" are integrated,

Shapeways streetlights
I've come close to finding a matching HO version of the streetlight I want but thinking of doing an FUD version. This pic shows a nice scale comparison-
Can you suggest passenger rolling stock for these locomotives? (N scale)
Sorry to do another 'knowledge begging' post in as many days, but I'm suddenly in a position to include passenger services since my train space just got 3X bigger (I am blessed), and I was wondering if you folks could advise on what's available to run with these locos (or what I need to convert, I'm open to this).
I have:
New Haven RS3
New York Central SW1200
Nickel Plate Road SD7
Norfolk Western GP118
Industrial Looking Doodads
Anyone care to share non hobby items you have run across that work in your scale for representing industrial type details? I know LIRR uses various Lego pieces as vents and such on many of his structures.
I wandered down the plumbing and PVC aisles at Lowes yesterday looking for items that were close enough to N scale size for pollution control details for a paper mill: piping, vents, and other strangely shaped pieces that could represent any of the miriade of devices used in these complexes that would help create an industrial jungle type scene.
STOP sign
Is there some rule when to place a stop sign for the train, even if crossing signals are installed?

Pokey Progress: Stacked
With the advent of warmer weather I haven't been spending as much time working on the layout. However I have managed to finish the final two helices I needed which are stacked above the two helices I built earlier.
