Weathering; Lessons learned from Trainmasters Tv and MRH
Hi all,
Recently there have been a number of several new videos on Trainmasters TV with step by step guidance on weathering techniques.
I can't say enough about how enjoyable and inspirational these tutorials are; furthermore they gave me the confidence to try them out on a locomotive.

February - Electrical Fun
Super Bowl Weekend - Only had to go to work 3 hours on Saturday so had some time over the weekend and before the game to work on the Railroad. Got all the various parts for the electrical switch controls so was able to build & install 9 of them. Thought someone would get a kick out of the controlled chaos so I took some pictures. This is only a temporary install till I can put on the fascia.
My wife will not let me buy any more puzzles
As I finished The Silver Bell puzzle, by Ted Blaylock I started to think, this would make a great scene on a model railroad. That's when the trouble started.

I'm thinking of making the switch from DC to DCC so that I can run double header trains with rear end pushers as was common in the era (1880). So I'm at the beginning of the DDC learning curve. I have found Bruce's Column in MRH to be very helpful as have the various manuals and web sites of the various manufactures. My engines (that I will have to add decoders too) have different motors and gear box setups that does not allow them to be ran together realizably. As i understand it (I think) the two lead engines you make a consists and the rear helper as an another engine/train.

Downtown Spur - N-Scale Micro Layout
Beside working on my room sized layout, I started a micro-layout project. The idea behind it is actually a contest entry more than having a second realm to play with.
Some of the progress photo made it to the WPF sections but here is a sum-up of some pictures :
Multi level/ grades and radius
So I have decided to build a two level layout. A single level in my 13 by 40 foot space just seems to not fit my goals. So I have some questions. First is typical space between levels. Backdrops typically are 18 to 24 inches high so I am guessing that is the starting point.

Its been a while since I've posted here. Here's a shot taken last night of an Adelaide bound super freighter waiting for a cross with an opposing train.
