Hocking Valley 3.0 Final Track Plan

Alright guys, after some more tweaking, here's the final plan. the Modules will basically be Luke Towan's method with the added mod of extra bracing over the staging yard since that will be the end of the branch line that splits off by the door. That sections going to be just a hair tricky since I'm going to make it dual mode with DC pulse width modulation throttles. Need a place to test run DC stuff before I convert it, plus I also have a couple friends with DC stuff that'll be able to come over and run.

N Gauge Peco Finescale code 55 and Bachmann Locos

Having spent a year or so messing about with Marklin 3 rail HO, I am coming back to US outline modelling. This time - as before so often - in N Gauge. As I only have a tiny space at the back of my desk - 52" x 10", I would like to make it as good as I can. This means that I am looking at using Peco Code 55 (I am in the UK).

However, I am limited by budget as to my equipment and I am currently looking at getting my first loco - a Bachmann GP-7. Has anyone used this combination of loco and track? If so, does it work OK?

Cab Ride on the CWE

Last month, Greg McComas stopped by for a visit. You may know Greg from his posts of his Michigan Interstate Railway. He brought along his GoPro camera and we shot a cab ride on the railroad. The tour starts at the engine facility at Nelsonville on the east end of the modeled portion and wraps up at North Pierce on the west end. Greg was kind enough to post the video on his YouTube channel. Here's a link to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlArolLdoXw&t=19s.

Himalayan Narrow-gauge Railroad

Just ran across this interesting video of a prototype railroad in the Himalayan mountains,...steam power is still alive.

When I did a search on this forum I found this subject thread on a similar Garratt type locomotive..

Motor shield problems

I'm using Jmri with DCC++ basestation, arduino uno and Doit 2 motor, 16 servo motor shield. Successfully modified basestation sketch for shield and can run locos. Problem is I can't switch turnouts (DCC++ monitor sends cmd) nor can I read the Mcp23017. I2c scanner sketch shows motor shield address 0x40 and Mcp23017 as address 0x20 as expected. Think I have relevant sketches but need help.

Bachmann HO 4-6-0 Disassembly

Howdy all-

I've struck out everywhere else to I thought I'd post here with the hope that one of the biggest brains in the hobby knows.

I have this Bachmann 10-wheeler and I took it apart and painted it this last weekend but I could not figure out how to get the shell off so I can do the lighting. Has anyone ever taken this model apart before? I've done all my others and have found there is usually one step that you just can't guess at. I think that's what I'm up against here.

renumbering and weathering up some slab side hoppers

True Line Trains made the iconic Canadian slabside hoppers in HO Scale in the early to mid 2000's.  They are nice cars that accurately reflect the prototype.  Except for one thing...

Rail Joiners - an AHA moment, or just a mental pfft?

Okay, here's a question for those of us who use caulk for tracklaying.  My track is held extremely well by the caulk.  A recent otherwise award-winning picture on one of the forums had two bright, glittery track joiners in the image; I thought "gee, wouldn't that have looked better without them?", and I suddenly realized that, once my caulk has set, there's no earthly reason for those joiners to be there.  Which leads to, why not just use a track alignment tool to hold the rails until the caulk has set, and do away with the joiners completely?

Entrance Trackage to Staging Tracks

Back when I was first looking at staging ideas, I recall seeing a number of different schemes to access the various individual staging tracks. I could not remember the particular subject thread(s) where I saw an idea somewhat similar to this one,...so I decided to post its own new subject thread. Lots of merit in this idea,...

Weathering Metal Siding Buildings

Anyone have any ideas on how to weather a metal siding building so that the paint appears to be old and chalky in appearance.  I'm not looking for rust features rather the way that paint with age will take on a dull color and look to be chalky.  I'm trying to replicate the building siding in this photo.  Tried dull coat but it just takes away the shine.
