Switching Primer
I just published a video, "The DRE Job: A Switching Primer". It shows step by step how I switch an industrial area on my layout and explains what moves I'm making and why I made those moves. Hopefully this will help people understand how to plan and organize their switching.
Enjoy!
Ops sessions with remote crews
I've really missed the fun and cameraderie of ops sessions lately.
I'd read about remote control capabilities for JMRI, mainly for remote dispatching, but never tried it. For my switching layout here in Southern Ontario I wanted to see if remote engineers could work with me as conductor/brakeman.
It turned out to be quite easy to set up, and yesterday an engineer in England and another in Australia ran the first 2 trains in my daily schedule. We ran for 3 hours total between the 2 jobs, in 2 sessions.

Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER) 1930
Greetings all, I hope you are getting stuff done like I am during these trying times.
I am looking for a scanned page from the 1930 ORER. 1928 or any other close book will do also. The page I would like to have is for the Mississippi Central which is normally a single page below or under Illinois Central.
Can anyone help me out? I found one online for 1913 and it was a big help but would like to compare it to the later book.
Thanks in advance!

IAIS's West End - A transition era for modern modelers
We often hear of the "transition era" referring to the final years of steam running alongside early diesels in the mid- to late-1950s. As someone born post-steam and who prefers to model what I've actually seen, I've never had an interest in basing a layout on that period. However, there have been many more transition eras since then, and I've found that the opportunity they afford to model the juxtaposition of old against new can add a lot of interest to our modeling.
Workshop tip – Building a Dry Weathering Box
Like many modelers, over time I have accumulated a large number of different weathering tools, as new and different techniques have become available. When manufacturers introduced weathering powders and chalks, I got some of those; next came Prismacolor pencils; then PanPastel powders. However, over time, I stashed these materials and the tools associated with them in different drawers, cabinets and boxes in and around my work area. Then, when a specific modeling project arose, I would forget to use one technique or another. Out of sight, out of mind.

My Front Range/Kato GP9 Kitbash Project, With Videos
Since the beginning of the year, I have been working on adding another locomotive to my shortline fleet. After much thinking and deliberation, I decided to model a proto-lanced South Omaha Terminal GP9. This blog post will go through all the major steps of this locomotive project:
F-7 VS FP-7
Does anyone know? I have a Blue Box Athearn F-7 and an Atlas FP-7 and there is a difference in length between the two. as near as I can tell, the FP-7 is longer than the F-7 by about 4 feet. When I looked at the two alongside I was somewhat surprised to see the difference. Is this correct for the Prototypes? The F-7 was originally an Athearn Northern Pacific model and the Atlas was an FP-7 painted for the Butter Knife/Pine tree color scheme for the N.P. Would the difference be due to a steam unit in the FP-7?
DC only Controller
I have Digitrax DB150 and DT400 for my DCC locos, and I want to be able to run my older locos which I have a bunch of on DC. I realize I cannot use both systems
