Two films made during the last operating session

Hello,

at the last weekend I held an operating session. First a film which shows our trials with the British Railways Bell Codes for communication between the stations.

The second film was made at the end of the session and shows some trains running on the Garve and Ullapool Railway.

Modular Operations/Tearing it all apart

After the setup in Chehalis, I decided to tear apart my Columbia Coldstor module and completely rebuild it from scratch.  If you are interested in seeing the problems and why I wanted to start over, you can watch my YouTube video.

Open DCC. Has anyone tried this?

It's open source command station, controller, and decoders. It looks like it works with JMRI. I just stumbled on it so can't comment past the curiosity.

North Conway benchwork plus staging video

Thanks to input on the topic I posted around what to do next, I decided today to build the next section of the benchwork - for the North Conway area.  Below is the trackplan again for the main level but with the benchwork plan shown to put the photos in context.

Atlas GP40-2W decoder issue

I was using a sound equipped Atlas GP40-2W along with a sound equipped Athearn GP38-2W to pull a demonstration train during a layout tour last weekend.  There was also a non-sound decoder equipped Overland M420 being used.

Rebuild of RGS #20 continues - amazing work here

See the latest post & photos here:

This is really amazing work, and the photos provide a VERY detailed look at steam locomotive innards.  This post focuses on the firebox supports, trucks, journals, and some frame work.  This is truely the most the complete rebuild I've been familiar with.

Can I solder contacts

I finally figured out that my contacts on my DCC locos keep wiggling loose, under the gray pin. Can I solder these brass contacts or is there another way to secure these contacts. I'm removing the shell several times a day and bending the contacts so it's only a matter of time before I break something.

Thanks

Tim

Variation on Electrical Wipers for Athearn 200ton Railroad Crane

I am building my second Athearn 200 Ton Railroad Crane (from a kit bought at a swap meet) and decided to install some lights on the crane, a la Dr. Greg's wonderful build article last year (the Athearn motorized crane). I reviewed his images and description of how he created the electrical pick-up wipers for his model and found that I could do the same in a slightly different manner.
