Trackwork
Ribbon Rail alignment tool
Does the Ribbon Rail alignment tool go between the rails and hold the radius while the track is spiked in place or does it butt up against the ties and form the radius? Or is it used to space two pieces of track evenly in a radius?
Thanks,
HB

Peco Headties
Specifically Code 83 #8 turnout.
i want to change out the headties to something closer to correctly-sized. The headties are connected to adjacent ties but don't appear to be needed for the working of the switch rod. I'll also be removing the clip.
I read one article about trimming the two ties to size. I'm thinking cutting them off and replacing them as a whole. I'll be having the ties extended in the same direction as they are.
My first module - Laying the track
Next it is time to lay my first piece of track.
First I carefully ran a fine bead of Barge Cement along the track ties on the bridge and the underside of the rails, then I had to wait 20 minutes for it to dry.

Tortoise and NJ Switch Machine Help
Ok, the railroad club just "inherited," through an unsolicited donation, a bunch of Atlas slide/momentary buttons used for their brand of switches. Has anyone used or know if these little slide buttons can be used on a Tortoise or NJ switch machine to active the switch? I'd hate to trash them or go buy SPDT's if they can be used. I'm going to lay track and switches on the new railroad within the month and would use these if they can work.
Step-by-step: hand-laying track on a truss bridge
Having very limited experience in hand laying track, I was concerned about getting it right on a Howe truss bridge (180' HO from Hunterline). I sought the advice from forum members in this thread and did some other research as well. The following is the end result.
The photos illustrating the process follow in the next post.

SMA22 – Low Cost DCC Controller/Function Generator for Animation, Test Tracks, Absolute Stopping Blocks for Keep-Alive DCC Locos
Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! This entry describes how to build what I call a “DCC Function Generator,” a combination of DCC base station and throttle for about $8 that can be used for mixed DCC animation control, DCC testing, Absolute/Emergency Stop blocking for lift-outs and bridges even for Keep-Alive equipped DCC locos, trolley multi-stop control, and all around DCC havoc!

Anyone have experience with a roadbed product called Flexxbed?
Haven't tried contacting them yet to see if they're even still in business (they have a website that appears to be active anyway: http://www.hobbyinnovations.com/default.htm). Just wondering if anyone has actually used their product (especially lately) and what your impression might be.
First Blue Point (TM) Installation
On my layout there is a switch toward the back of the layout that leads to a couple of public delivery and storage tracks. Access to the switch to throw it by hand is obstructed by a set of coal silos and a lumber shed.
