Trackwork

Progress

I HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM! The railroad is alive; the programming track works; the yard tracks all work; the mainline tracks all work. Once I install the ground throws for switch tracks the intermittent power problem will go away as the stock rails will make firm, positive contact.

Switch stand

Would a railroad's switch stand be seen on a private track or would it be different.

I'm modeling a small factory that has two turnouts on its property with three spurs - unloading track under a gantry crane, loading track alonside the factory, and a off-spot storage track as seen here:

Pembroke II: Engine House Lead

The Proto:87 Posse rode to my place last night in the form of a visit from Andrew. As I mentioned, I'm eager to get back to the layout now that I know what I'm doing with track construction. So, we cleared off the door that is still awaiting installation in the laundry room, and plunked the south module down. Engineer House Lead

Interlocking Tortoise Switch Machines

I have a location where the diverging move of one turnout (A) crosses the straight move of another (B)  and will be using Tortoises to control them.

When A is set to diverge I would like B to automatically move to diverge also.  When A is set for straight, I would like to retain full control of B.

I had two thoughts.  Either use the contacts of Tortoise A to interlock Tortoise B or use A's control switch to interlock B's control switch.

Any ideas, brilliant or otherwise to accomplish this?

Ontario South Central Railway

Hello, my name is Brad Ketchen. I am a musician, music engineer, sound editor and composer living in the Greater Toronto area. I say the GTA as my Girlfriend and I are moving to a condo in Toronto. This creates a dilemma, as I figure out the future of my railroad, Ontario South Central Railway and accomodating it in our new living space. Luckily, my girlfriend understands the need for a room to relocate the OSCR as well as my current location of the railroad on the adjacent wall to my recording work station.

A loaded question - Which 'HO' Track to use?

I haven't bought track, or had track in nearly 30 years.  I'm (slowly) working on a layout in modules that will closely resemble the area where I grew up in Indiana, and although I really like scale detail, I'm not interested in working everything to Proto:XX standards either.  I know some track may be considered by some as too 'toy like' and then others are at the other 'Proto' end of the spectrum, but what is considered to be the happy medium?

HO track 3 way switch contron wiring

I have a 3 way switch in a yard. how do I wire the 2 control switches to operate it? Thanks JohnM

Pembroke II - Tie Colour

Now we come to one of those great challenges with modelling the turn of the century: colour. In particular, since we've been talking about track, what colour should the ties be? The ties on the Canada Atlantic were almost certainly untreated, as preservatives for ties were something of a research topic, and the CA enjoyed cheap timber. So, we can't just go down to the local tracks and check them out. We can't even look at quite old tracks and think they're going to match (can we?). So, this week, I made up some more test track and experimented with colour. Tie colour
