Locos - Rolling stock (general)
Continental Grain Cars
I started working on some Continental Grain covered hoppers. The darker ones are Exactrail cars that I used an airbrush to do a fade on. After watching Garys video im starting to rethink that, especially since they turned out darker than I wanted. The other 4 ribbed 4427s are P2K kits and the 6 ACF 4650s are Intermoutain. Which was like finding a needle in a haystack since they were sold out a log time ago. I was able to find a shop that had all 6 road numbers. I cant remember the name of the shop, but it was somewhere in PA and the guys name was Fred Nixon, super nice guy.
Mike confalone weathering series

Using Arduino to protect locos w/KA from open gates, bridges
I'm having nightmares about a gate or bridge (and perhaps more than one) in my benchwork being open as one of my KA-equipped locos pulls up to it with capacitors not yet drained. Between the decoder's momentum settings and the KA I'm sweating either early equipment retirement or sharpening my soldering and other repair skills.
Strange decoder failure
I have an older Athearn SD40-2 that I repowered and installed a Digitrax DH123 decoder in about 3 years ago. It has been running just fine and has been a reliable loco. Today, I was running it and it just stopped. It showed a dead short and shut down my booster. I opened it up and checked the wiring for damage. Found nothing evident. Tried putting it back on the track and again got an instant short.
Otter Creek Railway: (yet another) returning to my HO railway ideas...
Hello again, it's been so very very long since I've been here, things have been rough for me. High school begun, new forms of stress, and personal matters are keeping me far busier than ever before. I even find it hard to set aside time for my art. However, recently, I found myself thinking about new equipment for my O gauge collection. Then, I started thinking about EMD BL-2s. Unfortunately, BL-2s in O gauge tend to be rather... Ehh....
Cornhill & Atherton - Vintage kit Caboose build
Inspired by Gary Christensen's recent TMTV caboose weathering articles, I dug an old caboose out of my kit archive with a view to trying out some of Gary's techniques.
Released in 1958 at a retail price of $5.10, this looks like a pleasant challenge which should result in a well detailed model.
I'll post a few construction pix as things progress and then the weathering attempts, following Gary's guidelines.
Primitive Paint Shop Attempt
One can only do so much clicking in MS Paint while trying to plan out a paint scheme or two for a freelanced line (My Idaho Belt RR) before insanity threatens.
Making magnetic brake hoses, was: Is anybody using the MagnaLock Brake hoses?
Is anybody using the PWRS MagnaLock Brake hoses?
Do you like them?
I'm considering using these for my own layout and I'm looking for any feedback you might have.
Classic Miniatures Hopper Kit
Frame construction. A lot of little pieces but straightforward really. The nbw's are at my limit of dexterity and eyesight.
I called this Hopper con pana!
