Locos - Rolling stock (general)

Are the contrasting colors on prototype reefers and boxcars paint or car cement?

I am working on detailing some cars (BB+) whose sides contrast with their ends and/or roofs.

Is there somewhere I can learn which cars had which?

I can tell you that this is a topic on which Google does a great deal better on recall than on relevance.

And what is used on black boxcar doors, e.g., New Haven, paint or cement?

thanks for your help.

OTTX 92065 Flatcar with Oshkosh HEMMT Tanker

This is a 60' Intermountain wood deck flatcar with a Herpa Minitanks Oshkosh truck. I removed and added some decals on the flatcar to match the prototype car. I then weathered the car and used Alkem Scale Models etched brass chains to tie the truck down. Before you say the chains should be crossed, look at prototype pictures. I used drive truck pulling oversize and heavy. We always crossed at least one set of chains. The military must do things a little different. All of the pictures I found of these, none of them had the chains crossed.

Copper Basin Railway

Help.  I am looking to start a layout based on the Copper basin railway.  I would like to do some custom locomotives and cars.  I am looking for decals and I have been unsuccessful, anyone have any ideas?  Also would anyone know where I might come up with drawings of the ore cars.  I have had no luck there either.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.  Thanks BK.

ESU LokSound help!!!!

I have an Atlas RS1 with ESU Lok.  I have CV3 and 4 set to a momentum of 200 each.  This morning when I fired her up, those settings were lost.  Now, I can't do anything.  It just sits and idles.  I go into CV8 and set a value to 8 for a factory reset and nothing happens.  I put in 3 on my NCE and that doesn't work.  I tried with the previous engine number programmed in (#200) and that doesn't work.  I'm not sure what to do now since I can't factory reset and start over.  I'm going out for a run.

3D printing lamps

When I was installing a DCC decoder in my Kato 7 tons DL for my 0e16.5 layout, I though that it would be great to have some working headlight instead of the moulded ones from the kit  (from Aru Model). As it would be already hard for me to do such little item from scratch without light, the only way to have it would to 3D print it.
