Two Story Depots

In the post "RIGHT ON TRACK MODELS CUSTOM PROJECT" two people expressed interest in two story stations and I thought it might be interesting to see some examples of kits, prototypes, and scratch built stations. I will post my example next.

Using decals to enhance backdrops

Has anyone ever used decals to enhance backdrops?  I am absolutely no artist but would like to add an occasional bird to the sky of my photo backdrops.

Paper mill buildings are done! Good news and bad news . . .

In the past few years I've posted bits and pieces of a paper mill I've been scratch building using multimedia and photo montages laminated to Masonite structure shapes.  It was intended to be an HO scale representation of a Pacific Northwest mill where I worked during my college years.  After about six years of on-and-off, now-and-then work, the mill is completed - that's the good news!

Dunn International Papers

Here a short clip of my paper mill layout, it’s a 10ft x 8ft U shaped switching layout.

The paper mill comprises of three tracks and two turnouts, which the branch comprises of three track, two on the branch itself and one that leads to the paper mill. There is also a tiny MOW siding which normally houses the railroad’s crane.

I’ve cherry picked ideas for Dunn Papers at Port Huron, MI and International Papers in Biglerville, PA allowing me to have a number of different that’s of cargo arrive and depart from the mill

Walthers Cornerstone Mountain Lumber Co Build

I rarely ever break out of my comfort zone of wood kits. As I was packing/moving my shop to the new studio I found a few boxed treasures sitting on my "other stuff" shelf.

Adventures in N Scale

After my HO scale CFNR layout sat and collected dust for a couple years, I decided to give some mainline action of the modern day BNSF in Arizona a try. After researching parts of the Seligman Sub and the Phoenix Sub, I was intrigued by the Kingman, Az. area and the entire Phoenix Sub. I picked up a couple locomotives and pieces of rolling stock to test my weathering skills in such a small scale and saw some success. I next built a 1'x4' diorama set in the Arizona desert and again saw some success.

Projection Mapping for the masses... Bring objects on your layout to life!

This popped up in my Youtube feed today:

I can see where this technology could be used to manage shadows, clouds, window lights, and all kinds of effects on a model railroad.

The possibilities are potentially endless on this. You could bring an entire night city scene to life in a very short time. Cool stuff!

Railserve Beverage Bottling Facility, Update #3

Well my 2 weeks off has come and gone and I am back on the road for another tour at work. I feel like some good progress was made on the layout with some positive results. I wanted to figure out some building designs and get a feel on how I can create what is in my head.

CR&N Construction - Structures

Structures are an on-going concern on the CR&N.  I am using a combination of scratch-built and what seem to be mostly DPM buildings, along with some Walthers backdrop buildings.

This is the Soylent Corp.  It is the biggest shipper on the line, and takes boxcars, covered hoppers, and tank cars.  The building itself is made of foamcore with photocopied walls from another building glued on.
