New Kaslo & Slocan layout

Thanks to everyone who responded to my blog post covering our new Kaslo & Slocan (CP) layout.  I've attached our updated layout plans reflecting some of the input.  The Nakusp location has been moved to reduce operator congestion and the upper level depth has been reduced to allow easier access to the lower level trackage.  Thanks again everyone for your input.

Hidden Trackage and Multiple Shelves

Hi folks,

I'm still in the drawing/tinkering phase of layout design and wanted to pose a couple of questions (I'll try hard to explain things clearly).

New CP Layout

Have finally secured space for a new model railroad (empty nest, former kids room).  Looking to model the Canadian Pacific's Slocan and Kaslo branches located in southern British Columbia off the former Kettle Valley Boundary Division. Time period modeled will be the 1970's.  Layout will be operated most of the time solo, but will host occasional operating sessions with up to 4 other participants.  Layout is to be built utilizing commercial shelf brackets and light-weight construction using foam and plywood sandwich as a base.

Layout design

Hello all,

I am finally in a position to build a permanent layout after a wait of six years.

The problem is, I can't seem to come up with an N scale track plan I really like.

new layout perhaps

Hi folks,

Looking for some thoughts here -I am not a pro when it comes to make really neat layouts, but like to create.  Just seeking thoughts on this plan-the blue is the out of bounds area, but the white area is what you have to work with...your thoughts

Would it be something you would use to build a layout, if there was a chance you may move in the next 10-15yrs?

4X8 is just plain BAD!

The January 2012 issue of Model Railroader magazine is out now and the project railroad featured is once again a 4X8 foot layout.

Elevation Help requested

Hi Folks,

Layout evolution?

I noticed a change in my layout about several years ago. I have been building for almost eight. It happened when my daughter was working on "her section". She asked where the hot glue gun was, I answered " South end of Dante Yard" She looked at me and I explained " back wall near the big tunnel at the yard, middle deck"

Return loop help needed

Hey folks-

need some help-I am doing a return loop, and I am tight on space-I have it in at a 22" radius but wondering if I should make it a min 24" radius, as I will be running 6 axle and the odd 85' car. With the 22" rad I have about 2.5 feet approx to work with, with the 24" I have 2ft give or take a few inches -the 22" is in pink-24 is gray-it is set to go under the main island for storage- any help would be great.
