Shelf Layout for the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville
I am working at designing and building a shelf layout around the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville RR located near Rochester, NY.
This is my first attempt at designing a model RR so I would appreciate comments.
I'll post a track plan and further info in a follow-up post.

Two turn outs back to back - is it reliable?
Hello MRH Community.
I have lurked here for a while but am now designing a small layout and ran into a question on the reliability of a particular track configuration.
If I put two turn outs back to back, can a train be reliably pushed through the two curves? I am concerned I have created an S-bend that will give me trouble
I am looking at #6 turnouts and 60 ft cars.
A picture of what I mean is attached.
Thanks.
Glenn
What do you think of this layout plan?
Lower Level Staging - Bottom left goes up helix to second level, trains from East originate here. Two tracks in right circle are trains from West which lead to first level.
Layout Rebuild
I constructed the "Marquette & Independence" layout from the Model RR Magazine's series that started in the Dec. 1975 issue. It has been in storage for a number of years and is in sad shape. I constructed the original design, in modular form as I had no place for a permanent set up. This was not a totally bad decision as I was able to move it to three different homes without problems.
the $500 Southern Pacific layout...in N
From my blog (http://sopacincg.com)
So, Model Railroad Hobbyist E-Zine had a track planning contest to design and build a layout for $500. The $500 includes track, a power pack, motive power, cars, buildings and scenery.
My first contest
Model Rail Radio is running a layout contest. The first phase of the contest - design - is over, and the build phase is begun. I submitted 2 designs for the contest, and both got picked in the final group of 5 winners!! almost didn't enter, now I am really glad I did - each of my winning entries was awarded a $50 prize - Whoo Hoo!
Am I fighting a loosing battle??
My son and I are looking to setup our first permanent layout, and as of a few weeks ago, I was reasonably sure we'd be going N scale... Fast-forward a few weeks and a couple layout visits, and we both would prefer HO scale now... I originally was looking at N due to our limited space, basically half a bed room, and I didn't think HO would fit...
