Update on the Colorado Front Range Railroad
A little different this time I talk about about how we are going about laying track. I have some question about RR-cirkits watchmen and a few thanks going out to two gentlemen who have help my out on photos the last two weeks.
Here is the link and enjoy.
Area I Visit Frequently And Thought Would Make Great Switching Layout
A new Layout - seeking ideas for a track-plan.
I wasn’t sure where to post this, because I’m a long way from being a beginner when it comes to model railways - I’ve had a number of layouts over the years; all of them small and portable, in typically British style (I am British; I live in Lancaster - the original one, with a castle, rather than the upstart version in Pennsylvania!). But I think this forum will do, because this is the first time I’ve tried seriously to model North American trains.
Progress Update
At the beginning of the month of August, I got stuck with how to wire the LED panels for both the 4 Bluepoint manual turnout controllers and the two panels (one on each side of the peninsula) that I needed for the 2 Tortoise turnout controllers. With the help of several MRH subscribers pointing me in the right direction, I was able to get that task completed as shown in my previous blog posting. This posting will show progress made on the construction of the support structure for the main level of my layout.
Will this look stupid?
I am trying to decide if this will look appropriate with the mainline track going under the tipple chute. The tipple chute will go into a backdrop.
I also raised the tipple foundation to fit locos under it. I understand that this is not a prototypical way to do it but I am trying to maximize space and have trains pull through the tipple.
Please see the attached photos.
Any input is greatly appreciated. I can take constructive criticism.
Thanks,
James
Revamping a track plan that didn't work out!
Well, I finally started tearing up track and bed tonight. Have you ever gotten half way through a project and felt you should have done it different? I did. I started out with a 4 x 8 that grew into a 12 x 12. But the track plan was all wrong, and I put the track right next to the edge of the layout which left me no room for scenery.
Lighting
In the last 10 years we have gone through three steps in lighting. If i had to do it over i would go with LEDs. This is good example of massive use of LEDs. There are two videos in this post.
Ballasting Complete on the Yard -Trenton Subdivision in N scale
I have completed the ballasting of the main yard for my layout, the Trenton Subdivision in N Scale.
In the photo you can see the general layout of the yard area. The engine terminal and shops are located behind the yard in the top of the photo. The entrance to the VIA Rail passenger yard is visible in the bottom left.
The yard tacks are arranged from left to right;

One Module at a time.
I will post to this construction blog as the modules are completed. Currently I do not have a layout room, but expect to have one completed spring 2015.
