Layout Tours

I'm looking for some info regarding hosting some layout tours. The club I belong to haven't done tours in a while so I've taken the lead to try and organize them.

I have a basic understanding of what to do (get participants, maps made, schedule etc). Is there anything out of the ordinary I might want to do to make the experience more enjoyable?

Bluehost has really tanked this time - Back up finally

Bluehost has been having recurring outage problems in the last 6 months and they're at it again. This time their support phone system and internal network is also having issues, so the support staff is clueless as to what's going on. No ETA because they don't have a clue.

Great, just great. What a mess. They are basically now having major outages roughly once every couple months - outages that last for up to 8 hours and are a total fire drill.

For us, this means all our ad feeds and links are broken. It also takes TrainMasters TV offline.

What's up with Trainmasters TV ??

What's up with Trainmasters TV ?? There's no content for March or April ? And what content is there is pretty much the same old stuff I've already bought from MRH before. At this rate, you're gonna be just like that other magazine soon!

New Layout (for web page not trains)

I like the new design of the forum index. Did anyone else notice?

Acrylic over solvent or vise versa

It has been a while since I painted a loco or passenger car. Can you airbrush acrylic over solvent or solvent over acrylic. I know one works and the other creates a mess. I don't want the mess. Please advise.

Railroad Prototype Modelers - Valley Forge, March 2014

I attended the RPM-Valley Forge meet last weekend in Malvern, PA and had a great time operating on local layouts, meeting with old friends, making some new friends, reviewing some great models on display, and taking in several informative presentations. The weekend of concentrated activity has recharged my model railroading batteries! I snapped several images with the iPhone to document techniques and ideas and posted a few below. I encourage other attendees of the 2014 RPM-Valley Forge event to post some of their favorite photos from the meet.

Post a few pictures of your caboose

Topic: Post a few pictures the caboose that you are building/detailing.

I am getting back to detailing this caboose that I assembled from a kit. It needs a little more weathering and details like trash cans, flags, coffee cups, etc.

This kit came with interior detailing. The scale is Sn3 (S scale 3 foot narrow gauge)

Elephant or Ferrari

We visited Beamish Museum yesterday.

If you get to the UK try to visit - awesome......

This is the Steam Elephant (replica) from around 1815

The driver told us that the build cost was about 500k dollars - we pointed out that you could buy a Ferrari F40 for that. The driver's "in character" mask slipped for a second  - "I think I'd prefer the Ferrari" he mused.....then drove off:

Bachman GG1

What a shame how Bachman messed up their new HO PRR GG1. Their model of the last PRR paint scheme which was Dark Green Locomotive Enamel, buff gold single stripe with large keystone is done incorrectly.

When I saw the model at the Amherst,MA show I asked the Bachman rep why the PRR lettering in the keystone and outline of the keystone were buff gold, they both should be white. I indicated to him it was wrong.

He informed me that I was wrong, that they had done "extensive research." I even offered to show him a color photo; not interested!
