My power builds

Breathing life back into this beast hoping to become a GP30 HH unit for my freelanced road.

Got a PNW resin GP30 cab with high hood for my GP30 and it went south from there.

As the PNW part was for a phase 2 unit and my models are phase 1 unit's so I ended up cutting away most of the cab from the PNW part keeping the nose and cab brow.

I then altered the cab on my GP30 as I will try to graft these parts together to get a HH GP30.

More to come.

Athearn ho maxi 1 question

I recently received an Athearn ho scale maxi 1 5 unit car (#ATH95033) which I ordered online. I didn't notice by viewing it on the website that the A and B units say "Southern Pacific" on them. It's not that big of a deal but I plan to buy another and I prefer that it only has DTTX or TTX on it.

Does anyone have an Athearn maxi 1 like this and happen to know the product number?

Thanks!

Close Coupling for Passenger Cars

All,  what is the "state or the art" with close coupling of passenger cars today?  Roco and other European manufacturers have been doing it for many years but I am looking at using kits and modifying cars designed for body mounted knuckle couplers,  My prototype has full diaphragms and I use 30" radius curves.

YouTube Rolling Stock Reviews and Coupler Height

Whether its James Wright, Daniel Cortopassi or a number of others who review mrr rolling stock on YouTube. . . there is one consistency between them all.  When reviewing/checking coupler height, most of the pieces of rolling stock have one or both of the couplers too high or too low.

Buying DC Locomotives Used

Hey All,

I realize that the title of this post would have been seen more 10 or 15 years ago (sorry!) but I have finally made up my mind to go the DC route for my first small layout as I cannot save up the money to purchase DCC locos and equipment.

Steam Locos Quality and Performance

Just getting back into HO scale and need guidance regarding steam locos quality and performance. Are BLI and Bachmann Spectrum good quality and good performers? Any other brands?

Thanks,

Carl

Intermountain ES44ac side frames from the trucks

Hello everyone.

I was working on a ES44ac from Intermountain for a friend and made a mistake.  As a result I have to replace the molded plastic side frame of the one truck.  Apparently Intermountain does not have any spare parts.  So my question is there another manufacturer of these side frames that can be used?  Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you

Frank

BLI PRR I1sa with QSI

Hello: Using DCS50, JMRI with SPROG2.   I had purchased the subject loco about 10 or more yrs ago. It was placed on a club layout, 03 changed to 4538/loco number. Ran a little. Lights, bell, whistle all worked. Put back in box. Sat for 10+ years. Took out of box, set on pt. JMRI shows short circuit. PT is a siding that I can switch back and forth with OPS & DIR/PAGE. Loco sits on that track. Switch to main and loco lights, bell, whistle and runs. On 4538. On 03, it just lights, but nothing else. i.e. Power gets to the loco on main.

Smelly ATF for loco lubrication?

I'm taking the advice I picked up here in the MRH forums and looking to use automatic transmission fluid for lubricating a couple of locomotive. I picked up some Valvoline fully synthetic, Dexron II compatible ATF, but this stuff really smells.

I recall someone indicating that the red lube that came with the old Aurora HO slot cars was nothing but ATF, and I recall that having a unique but fairly pleasant smell.
