Broadway Limited H2a 3-bay hopper cars era?

I am modeling Csx operations in the year 1998 and I have 6 Broadway Limited  H2a 3-bay hopper cars patched Csx. Are they prototypical for this year?

Athearn BB GP9

Good evening/morning,

I just finished an install of a decoder, a Digitrax SDH164, in the above mentioned loco and to my dismay, when I tested the installation, the sound, the light were working fine but...  no movement, even at the highest speed level on the throttle (step 28), the loco would not move at all!

Need help finding info on Brawa Der Salonwagen

Greetings. First time poster.

I was an employee at a well known model railroad company. I was given a nice piece of model railroad memorabilia by my boss. I'm hoping someone can help me more clearly identify this item.

It is packaged in a nice wooden box. Printed on it is:

Brawa

Der Hofzug der Koniglich-

Bayerischen-Staatsbahn. Etwas ganz

besonderes in hochster Qualitat

Der Salonwagen

Inside is a Brawa ID card, listing the item as #210, dated 6/7/1992

iCar from Minuteman Scale Models

I've discovered yet another use for my iPhone - on car videos using "iCar" from Minuteman Scale Models (http://www.minutemanscalemodels.com/product_p/87-10.htm.)  This is pretty cool.

Axle/truck mounted motors - thoughts?

Okay, take a look at this:

http://www.railflyermodel.com/products/mk-9011-traction-motor

According to the description: "Our "Traction Motor" is powered with a 6 volt, 23 ohm motor, and geared for 49:1 operation."

To much detail?

I am building a Proto 2000 model of an SD7 that I bought a number of years ago and I am stunned by the detail on the loco. I consider myself a good model builder but this thing is a challenge. I have a question for those who have built and operate one of these models. How well do the details hold up in use? This is the first time I have ever questioned the level of detail on a model but detail is no good if you break it off handling it.

For Canadian modelers Intermountain announces release of Sd40-2.

Just for information, I just received information form Intermountain that they will be releasing HO scale models of Emd Sd40-2 locomotives in every iteration made during the next year.  I noticed that for the Canadian modelers here that they will be releasing what appears to be prototypically correct CN versions in various CN paint schemes available in June/July of this year.  I presume from their announcement that CP units will be announced later in the year.

F units, Athearn vs. Bachmann

A friend of mine has been trying to figure out how it would look to combine Athearn and Bachmann F units in the same consist.  Now that I have one of both, I took some pictures and thought it might be useful to somebody else out there.

The green Southern unit is a stock Athearn RTR model, while the black NS unit is a stock Bachmann Silver Series model.  They could both use modifications to the rear couplers, but overall I think they are fairly similar.  The roof profiles might be very slightly different, but not enough to show in most cases.

What's your technique for drilling holes?

Hey everyone,

This is a general inquiry about successful techniques for drilling hundreds of those #78-#80 sized holes for grab irons or other tiny details. What do you use to accomplish this other than a pin vise?

The thought that has crossed my mind is to use one of those cordless screw drivers with a micro chuck or a slow speed model drill press. Both of these options are fairly costly. Of course, so are broken drill bits. So, any good ideas to preserve the wallet and personal sanity are appreciated.

Life Like GP38 coupler replacement

I have a couple OLD Life Like GP38's laying around that I'm thinking about stripping down and rebuilding.  These are the old toy train engines with the truck mounted couplers and open pilots.  My question is this, what is the best way to mount KD coupler boxes into the shell after I fill in the pilots with styrene?
