repowering an old loco

I was at a toy show last weekend and picked up an old Atlas/Rivarossi N scale Fairbanks Morse "c" loco.

Long story short, it doesn't run. The motor is toast. All three of the wires from the windings are broke off from the area where the brushes make contact.

I dont think I can fix the wires so I was going to look for a replacement motor for it.

Who do you guys recommend for a new motor?? Any advise would be helpful.

Improving running of Bachmann 4-4-0 Standard locomotives

Hi Everyone,

I did a bit of a search but couldn't find much on this..

i bought some Bachmann 4-4-0's (the ones from the golden spike ceremony) and they're a bit noisy (and one of the lights doesn't work)

anyone got any tips on how to improve their running? and what i should change about them? i know early bachmanns are a bit rough, but I assume there is something i can do?

Thanks in advance!

Russ

Brake Line Help

Brake Line Help

I am trying to detail a Walthers TTX four truck depressed flat car by adding the brake lines using wire.  However, I have been unable to find a diagram or a good enough picture to see where the pipes need to go.  Does any one have any suggestions or diagrams of what this might look like.  The specific car number is QTTX 130556.  I found drawings and a article about them in the July 1994 RMC but the drawings don't seem to match the pictures.  Thanks for any help you could provide.

D&H RS 2/3 marker lights

I am looking to add some of the roundish marker lights found on the ends of the hoods of D&H RS 2/3's to my HO diesels, does anyone know who makes this type of detail?

thanks in advance,

Bill

Looking for some decal help

Some 30 years ago I bought a dozen MDC 26' ore cars (HO).  I did not care about prototypical correctness nor was I discriminating wrt roadname or car color: I bought whatever the LHS had in stock, brown black, silver, blue...  I recently received another dozen of these from a friend who was clearing out his standard-gauge inventory.  I have tuned these up so they roll again (a bit of rust on the axle points is an effective brake).  Now, I'd  like to repaint all 2 dozen and apply new lettering.

Rapido Trains continues to innovate

I just have to "blow the horn" of Rapido Trains, an MRH sponsor.  Their detailed models have set the bar high for a lot of manufacturers and their latest FP9 continues to set the standards for what a plastic loco can be.  One of these innovations (in conjunction with Soundtraxx), is to add the doppler effect to their array of sounds.  Take a listen:

VO-1000 Ph.2 air horn

I have ordered a Baldwin HO VO-1000 Ph.2 loco from Bowser/Stewart.   After looking closely at the drawings and

prototype photo's of these units, I don't see any air horns.  Did they not have them?

Bowser Locomotives

I have my eye on a new HO Bowser AS-616 locomotive.  This will be my first Bowser loco, as I only have Athearn, Atlas and Proto 2000 in my fleet.   Need  opinions on the Bowser line of loco's.

Have been bitten by the O Scale & Narrow Guage Bugs!

I have recently become affiliated with a local model railroad club, in order to get to know more modelers in the area.  The club has both an HO Scale and an O Scale Layout.  The O Scale Layout has both Standard and a 3' Narrow Gauge line. The Narrow Gauge railroad is a freelanced line based on something like the East Broad Top modeled in Western PA! (How fortunate for me :-D)  So as part of my long term planning I would like to add a small fleet of On3 Hoppers to their car fleet without breaking the bank.
