Cleaning up a motor (which should never have been dirty in the first place)

I'll never learn.  I should have known better than to assume I would not need a spare motor, just because it's too small.  I should have taken better care of it.  I didn't.

Powering a Dummy Locomotive

Hey Everyone!
I did a bit of a search and couldn't find much on this (i could find details on pulling a motor out and making a dummy though)

I picked up an old Athearn F7 dummy - I know it's probably not economically viable to power one of these, but is there really that much involved?

If i can get a motor on the cheap, and frame i assume the powered stuff will just swap over?

any info appreciated!

thanks in advance

Russ

Tank cars in Arizona around 1960

Hi all,

My layout is loosely based on, or inspired by the Santa Fe branch from Phoenix to Ash Fork - Williams Junction in the early 1960's.

I want to buy some 10k gallon tank cars and maybe also some Atlas 11k gallons LPG cars for my layout and wonders which brand of oil companies would be most appropriate for the Prescott and Phoenix area in that time period.

Would it be something like Phillips 66, Gulf, Shell, Standard, Conoco or someone else?

solvents for waterslide decals

I have read a few suggestions to use a special solvent to get decal to "stretch" over grooves and bumps in the model (particularly on model locomotives where there are lots of "door lines", hinges etc
I am not able to find the suggested specialty off the shelf products in my town and am wondering if anybody here has tried or heard of any commonly available household/hardware type chemicals that would work in this situation?

Thanks,
Ken Goudsward

mth sd70ace dcc programing

hi all i have one of mth`s rather nice sd70ace the only problem is that will not  retain its cv programming i have set cv 29 to a value of 38 to get it to use its running number as an address but as soon as i remove power from the track it reverts to 3. The first one i got works fine but the new one is a bit of a problem child.

Has any one else had this happen i am programming with a dynamis pro which changes the cv and have used a decoder pro with a sprog which failed completely to do anything any help would be appreciated

Locos - PK2 SD50 problem - Little help, Please?

Guys & Gals -

I have a bit of a problem.  I picked up a new, in the box, Lifelike Proto 2000 D&RGW SD50 last week at a local (2 hours away) hobby shop.  We ran it on the test track and it did fine at slow speed.  We couldn't test it out good because his small layout was full of engines and cars for customers to check out.

I need your advice

I am attempting to do some weathering to some old box cars. Yes, I am struggling. I have read Kevin Klettke's PDF presentation over and over and it is wonderful. I have learned so much, thanks, Kevin.

I need your advice to help me get better. Please critic the attached picture and be brutal. I learn greatly from my mistakes and your advice.

UP 8144 SD9043MAC in Local Service > Odd

I've seen this locomotive in local service for the last few weeks. This photo was taken just outside Midland, Texas today [2/23] about 12:30 PM.

Outside braced box car with vertical siding?

Does anybody know of any outside braced box cars (North American prototype only, please) which had vertical boards instead of the more common horizontal boards?  I can see a good reason for the horizontal boards, but before I give up on a silly idea I had, I thought I'd at least ask if there was ever such a prototype.
