What colors for D&RGW Heritage 1989?

I'm looking for the "right" colors for the Rio Grande Heritage loco, and can't seem to match anything up yet.  I'd rather not custom-mix, although that avenue is not off the list.  Has anyone found the correct Orange and Grey to use for these?  Thanks in advance......smiley

Atlas Freightcar Truck Pin replacement screw option?

Dear M-R-Hers,

Collective "Brains Trust" time.

Just picked up an Atlas Extended Vision Caboose for a kitbashing project, and belatedly realised it uses press-in friction-pins to mount the trucks. (No biggie, the caboose just arrived in original sealed packaging, with one truck flopping around loose in the box).

A quick check suggests that a M2.5 screw will fit thru the existing truck hole, and can be tapped into the bolster. However, the typical M2.5 pan head is too big to fit within the Atlas truck recessed hole.

Noisy Bachmann diesel

My Bachmann "newer DCC on board" is noisy both forward and reverse. Any suggestions on how to make it run quietly? Thanks for any help. Art

2nd Athearn Crane DCC Controled

Almost done with the second crane build. This one will have 3 NCE decoders to animate the turret, boom and big hook. I just need to add a second set of pick-ups to the second truck and add the small hook. Then it's off to a good friend of mine Jim Otto of http://Ottovation.net  to have three NCE decoders installed and tested.

Here's a pic of what it looks like up to this point.

On30 Scartch Build Projects

Since we have a few (how many ?) On30 modelers on here I thought I'd post a few pics of two projects I started several years ago but never finished because I decided I needed to stick with one gauge.

The first three are of a 2 truck diesel critter using an old Bachman two motor drive.

Indian Creek RS11 Ex SP 5858 question

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=95460 Heres a link to the loco it's ex SP 5858 ,where are the sand fillers on these SP 5xxx series alcos? This appears to be an SP mod rather than home grown. Also does anyone know where the cable, which runs from the socket housing above the rear truck, goes to .Finally the box above the intercooler is another SP quirk anyone point me in the direction of a good roof detail shot or is it just a simple box?

Sierra Railroad #3

Thank you, Joe, for creating the steam loco topic. This will make it easier, once people figure out it's here and how to use/access it, to have a place to discuss steam locomotives.

Though I'm sure this will primarily be about model steam locos, I figured it wouldn't hurt to start with a photo of a real one.

How to determine ratio of "regional" cars vs "national" cars for freight traffic

Although I can find how many cars every railroad owned (at least as reported in the ORER) in 1953 in this case (the year I am modeling) it doesn't tell me WHERE those cars went.  This is significant because how do I determine how far a typical car of a particular type travel.  Why do I need to know this?

Anyone ever use the Micro Mark can motors?

Anyone have experience with Micro-Marks HO can motors? I have a hand full of locomotives that would be nice to repower and MM has them on sale for 20 bucks each currently. Much more affordable then the Proto Power West motors.
