Locos and rolling stock

I have a lot of old locos and rolling stock which need new couplers. So far I have mostly been glueing kata coupler boxes but have recently discovered the joys of the 2-56 screw. One question arises though.

Some of the items have holes which are either slightly bigger or smaller than 2-56. I'd like to buy a few different sizes to bolster my toolbox. Can anyone suggest what these might be called? I have no idea what to look for online.

This is one of my 2012 projects and my first post on this Forum: the English Electric Diesel Locomotive Class 1400 of CP (Portuguese Railways) in the standard orange/brown colour scheme, built for a friend.
Portugal ordered a total of 50 Diesel Class 1400 locomotives from English Electric.
The first bath of 10 locomotives where built in the United Kingdom and arrived in Portugal in 1967. The remaining locomotives where built in Portugal.

Which older n-gauge steamers are good runners? (Looks not especially important)

I am planning on building an HOn30 steamer or two on an n-gauge mechanism.  I'm hoping to find a good deal on an older one on ebay; I don't want to spend a lot of money on an experiment.  Which brands of older steamers are reasonably good runners?  The quality of the shell is unimportant, as that won't be reused.

I'm considering anything from an 0-6-0 to a 4-8-4; my North Central grew a bit more than history's Maine 2-footers.  (The actual Maine 2-footers had broad curves for a 2 foot gauge line.)

Not being a lifelong rail modeler, I don't have the same knowledge base that I do for most things aviation related.  I recently picked up 'The Contemporary Diesel Spotter's Guide' on Amazon to help me identify the more modern diesels that might have been in use on my (eventual) Conrail line in Northeastern Indiana.

I am trying to find a Sunshine vinegar car. Is Sunshine still in business? Anyone here had any dealings with them lately? Do I just send them a check and hope I get something eventually? They have no website and the only way is contacting through the mail. I read somewhere it might be 6 months before they respond!

Genesis Bay Window Caboose. What decoder is installed?

I'm trying to use JMRI Decoder Pro to change/set CV's in a (factory lighted) Athearn Genesis Bay window Caboose.

It wont respond at all. Using a seperate dedicated programming track (just a couple atlas rerailers on a piece of wood) with a PR3 (with a power-pax booster in line) With this setup I can program Tsunami's all day long. But for some reason I cant get this decoder to "wake up"

So I figured if I at least knew the decoder type, I could create a JMRI roster entry by hand and then maybe it would respond.

Blue Strip on Tank Car Ends?

I notice a lot of tank cars with blue paint in the upper quarter of the ends.

Does anybody know what the significance of this marking is?
