What is your signature train?

I was talking with a gentleman in my club last week.  He talked about the concept of each member has a "signature train".  The definition of a signature train, is that train that you are known for within your group.

His examples were his own coal car train, Randy's MOW train, and my train.

So, what is my signature train?  Well, >>>>>spoiler alert<<<<<< my signature train graces the cover of the July 2013 MRH magazine, so tease, you get to see it Monday.

Detailing an old Roundhouse Gravel Car

I have several of these cars, and plan to enhance the details with stirrups on the corners, a brake wheel at one end, and grabs where appropriate, in addition to the handwheels that are included for opening the bay.  I'll also add brake cylinders at one end or underneath, and actuators for the doors.

When did the diesel boxcabs fade away?

When did the small diesel boxcabs mostly vanish from use?  I'm talking about the fairly small ones that first showed up in the 1920's, like the Roundhouse kit that can be adapted to a Bachmann 44-tonner's drive system.  And--how long could they reasonably have been in use?  My google-fu has failed here.  I see that some ran in the early 50's--does anyone know if they ran later?

Building resin freight car kits

I've been building HO scale resin freight car kits recently. Since April 29, nine have been assembled and ready for the paint shop. Additionally, three Tichy and two Accurail kits were upgraded. More details and images are shared on my blog.

Additional kit builds will be shared in the next few weeks on the blog. And sometime soon I'll need to get the paint booth in order!

Flat car load ideas?

I love flat cars--so much variety in what can be seen on them.  I would like to have one REALLY unusual load--something that will make everyone who sees it do a double-take--yet be believable.

One thought I had:  Take a naval miniature wargame battleship, put it on a flatcar--then bedeck the car with "Buy War Bonds" signs and 48 star American flags.  Any other ideas?  (A naval wargame battleship miniature is just right for a small flatcar load.)

DASH 8 radiator upgrades

Does any detail manufacturer make a part for "upgrading" a Dash 8 with the split cooling modifications? Or, has anyone attempted to kitbash or scratchbuild said modifications?

Fox Valley N Scale

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anybody is running Fox Valley diesel locos on their N scale pikes? I am looking to buy some new motive power in the near future and while I love Kato I am always open to different manufacturers. Basically I want to know if Fox Valley runs more like a Bachmann or a Kato. What is the level of detail also. Thanks
