Locos and rolling stock

Observation car railings--how can I model them.

I have a couple of old-style observation car kits--the ones with the back platform with a railing.  Sadly, the railing is clunky plastic--any idea what to use to get a better look?  (I model in HO scale.)

Could this be a long lost treasure, just waiting to be rescued?

inherited locos

Joe, et al, I have recently switched back to my roots as you did. I inherited some SP Sd's supposedly 40-2, 40T-2, and 45's. They are all older Athearn with open motors. My questions are: What are length/detail differences in those models, ie: spotting features. and also I intend to install sound and lighting details as in your Volume 3. Will I be able to run very slow starts, or will cogging prevent that, and should I re-power with new can motors? thank you, John Colley, Port Townsend, WA/Sonoma, CA

Loco Painting - Advice on Preparing Metal

I have a Bachmann 4 6 0 that has been stripped ready for painting.

EBay purchase (real cheap) but terrible re-paint by someone.....................

Generic or Prrototype Steam engines

I have just downloaded a trackplan as well as the associated video.

The builder has taken great care and has modeled a specific area and modeled the railroads that actually served the area.

The railroad buildings are good resentations of actually was built. The rolling stock is more or less correct. However, I can not overlook that fact that this is a Canadian railroad and of a specific area.

EMD SD 24 by Hallmark Models

I acquired two brass SD 24s made by Hallmark models today. They are quite old and show some very mild rust or dirt on them. I would like to get them all cleaned up and painted, then add dcc sound to them. So I am looking help on where to start. I also notice that they don't have the windows or number boards with them. So I need to know where I can find them.

Any help would be appreciated

Alan.

Union Pacific 2010

Gang,

So, I do not model Union Pacific but considering how loose the modern railroads are with run through or lease power, I am sure I could get away with a UP engine or two...

Although I am a little late on this one, I just discovered UP 2010 which was an ES44 painted to celebrate the Boy Scouts 100th anniversary. Since I have a couple of Boy Scouts, having one of these engines is kinda like a no brainer...

Decal sheets: which ones work best?

Looking at adding some decals to a crane I want to purchase. Going with the Santa Fe line for the "Palomar Glass train" I want to build. Any recommendations of which decals work best? looking for something like this:

I can get the cars unpainted on sale. Who makes these Santa Fe decals and font I guess? Woodland Scenics?

which decals to stay away from?

Recommendations?

Thanks.

CMT Pointe St Charles Caboose

As many of you probably know, the CMT Pointe St Charles Caboose Van project ground to a halt some time ago, but was supposedly picked up by TrueLine Trains in co-operation with Rapido.

Since communication about the project status has been poor at best, I have made a point of checking on on the status on the TLT website every once in a while.

Sadly it looks like this will never happen now.
