Locos and rolling stock

Repowering ancient critter type locos

Gang,

I actually was able to go to my first trainshow in over a year !!!  One of my finds was an Athearn Hustler shell for a buck. We all know the challenges of that drive system and I need a better solution.

What I want are some powerful and reliable slow speed critters that can be used for in plant switching. I don't care if the little Tyco Plymouth or the Athearn Hustler don't have agreed upon prototypes. They are the right look for the art.

Swift reefer decals HO

I am looking for HO decals for the Swift reefers in the aluminum scheme with the large red oval.  The oval has bock 'Swift' in it and many times black 'filigree ' on the sides of the red oval.

Are there any small decal printers that have  these?

Diecast Cracking

Can anyone tell me what caused the MANY spider cracks on the diecast 200T crane I picked up? When I got around to it I couldn't believe all the tiny cracks on the cab, and some on the base around screw threads.

I tried to stabilize them, first with CCA glue and then epoxy, but the cab just kept coming apart. I found another derrick but I'm using a plastic cab now.

Recently I saw an old Roundhouse 0-6-0 that was really crumbling. Any comments appreciated.

Cal-Scale Ft/F Detailing Kit - Opinions?

Hello all, I just discovered that Detail Associates stopped manufacturing their super-detailing kit DK-701 for Stewart and Bowser F-units several years ago, and hobby suppliers who carried them have been long out of stock.  Nowadays, the only detailing kit for F7 shells that I've seen available are the ones by Cal-Scale (Item# 519).  Has anybody here ever used this kit to detail an F-unit?  And if so, how do the pieces compare with those of the extinct Detail Associates kit?  I'd really prefer not having to bend up my own...wink

Unusual question (Diagram Help)

This question is probably not that common but I’m willing to ask it. My friend and his group, while not professional model railroaders, are making accurate models and content for the train sim Trainz 2019, and he usually asks me to help him locate diagrams. Kinda hit a stop in the road. Some of the projects he has planned are the ATSF U28/30CG, the BM&LP/Amtrak E60C/CP/CH/CH (phase II)/MA, and the SW10, but as far as we know there aren’t many diagrams ready for them.

HO Tank engines?

Not the most urgent of considerations, but the talk in another thread of a Docksider and combined with the knowledge of some ammunition plants near the railroad made me wonder about tank engines. The Docksider of course is an 0-4-0T, and I am not aware of any HO models - even brass - in the past 40 years or so. PFM apparently did one in the 60s. I am pretty sure someone - Varney? - offered one in Zamac or something similar, but they have been gone for decades.

Making Docksiders look Longer,...electrically

Making 'docksiders' look longer

Are there some good ideas for electrical pick-ups that would make short wheel base locos such as the infamous 'docksiders' effectively longer to get over dead frogs?....      photos,  discussions

Looking For Stewart/Kato F Part FOUND

I really need to find a Stewart/Kato F3/F7/F9 double headlight casting. Somehow I've managed to lose the double headlight casting that I need for a project I'm working on.

If any of you have an extra laying around, I'd sure be willing to take it off your hands. If so, let me know the specifics as to how much moolah and if you have  PayPal account/etc.

Thanks.

Andre
