RE-RELEASE ATLAS S2 AND S4 DCC SOUND
Has any one heard when to expect the Atlas S2 and S4 DCC sound to hit the shelves...(I see on line "taking back orders" but zero word from manufacturer)
Labelle Tank Car
I found this kit a couple of years ago at my LHS. The only thing I needed to come up with are some rivet decal strips. Sounded like a deal for about $15.
Until I started putting it together. It turns out there is a lot of sanding on the tank to smooth it out. It also turns out to be way to long for the cradle it sits in. See photos below. So question is how do I go about shorting the tank without losing it's shape. Cut it in half and the cut would be enough to cut down the length? Not sure I want to do that.
Shipping sugar - a request of the hive mind
Okay, I've got a liquid beverage bottler (it's a Pepsi bottler) on my layout. They get corn syrup via tank car. I know they are getting sugar too, because they bottle Real Sugar Pepsi there. I suspect it's by truck.
On my layout I want it to be by rail.
Era is somewhere between 2005-2010-ish.
What cars would be appropriate for hauling sugar in such a situation?
Modeling a GE 50 tonner
I have a query that I hope can be answered. Could a GE 50 tonner be modeled by putting a pair of 44 tonner trucks on a 45 tonner?

I just saw that Piko announced a brand new diesel locomotive that might be of North American interest: the Whitcomb Locomotive Works type 65-DE-19A diesel locomotive.
IC 500 series Cistern (aux tender) my first 3d Printed Kit
In 1941 the IC began converting old tenders into auxiliary tenders, know on the IC as Cisterns. There were two series built. The 500 series that were 28 feet long and had a capacity of 11200 gallons and the 600 series that were 33 feet long and had a capacity of 12500 gallons. They were painted black and early in their service they had large numbers on the sides just like the locomotive tenders. The lettering soon changed to a small number on the right hand side of the car.
My On30 Bachmann Porter jumps out of gear. Suggestions?
My early Bachmann On30 Porter jumps out of gear easily. The gear box is covered so I can't add a styrophene or brass strap of any kind.. It runs great until that happens. Any suggestions?

A recent posting on this site brought this subject of diesel locomotive truck design back to my mind. I went looking in the search box, but was not coming up with some of the info I was seeking,...perhaps I just entered the wrong search words?
Standardizing on one brand of decoder: ECU vs. TCS
I've used TCS decoders for quite a while and have been quite impressed with how they work and I really like their instructions. I just spent the las couple of weeks putting TCS decoders into two Atlas MMID SD24's and an Atlas MMID GP28 using Decoder Buddies and Audio Systems speakers. Sound really good and working will. i Screwed up with the renumbering of the GP38 (see my blog for the gory details.)
The ubiquitous 40' gondola Tyco, Model Power, Life like, Mantua, and others
They're literally, EVERYWHERE !!!
What I am talking about are those infamous 40' gondolas molded by virtually any toy train manufacturer. I bought a bunch of them with the intention of turning them into an articulated gondola. I might still do that, but I have discovered that they are modeled after a riveted side gon that probably hasn't been seen on the rails in 50 years. Even though this Railgon scheme looks good on them, they wouldn't be hauling coal and they would be way to old for GONX era.
