Locos and rolling stock

Exactrail Bethlehem 3483 Hopper : D&RGW

Has anyone bought any of these?

If so? Are they worth the price. Im looking at ordering some but they work out at around $53NZD per car, with the current exchange rate. They are the type of hopper I will be needing on my future layout. Or is there a more cost effective way?

BLI steam wiring question?

Hi all,

I'm trying to install new decoders in some older BLI steam locomotives for a friend, and have run into an issue with the factory wiring.  BLI did not label or color code any of their wires so I have no idea what does what.  Here's a look inside the tender:

Where Do You Guys Find Turn-of-the-Century Rolling Stock?

I'm thinking wooden (prototype, not model), truss-rod boxcars, gondolas, flat cars, etc. I come by them on Ebay randomly sometimes, but they're always amongst hundreds of modern pieces, so I feel like I'm missing out on many that may be offered if I could only narrow down my search...

Any key words, tips, or links would be greatly appreciated!

Bachmann Vanderbilt Tender Problems

I am in the process of turning the Bachmann 2-8-0 into a class C-13 (a total foobie) #2870 one of two engines purchased from an Oregon lumber line (#2869-2870) that was dieselized in the late 1940's. I have not tried the dome modification yet.

Locomotive motor noise

Recently purchased a replacement motor, (advertised as new, never used), for an Athearn RTR GP35.  Hooked up a Tsunami sound decoder and locomotive runs great.

The issue is the motor sounds noisy, especially at low speeds.  About the best way to describe the noise is it's similar to the noise you would here if a car derailed and the wheels were rolling along the ties at high speed.

"Did I purchase a lemon here?"

Proto 2000 2-8-8-2 disassembly

Does anyone have a good resource or documentation on disassembling a Proto 2000 2-8-8-2, or an exploded view drawing would be helpful too.

Thanks!

Reefer cars

Hi @ all,

I want to install on my layout a cooling warehouse. My layout has as theme the time of 1985-1995 in the southeast. Can anyone tell me which reefer car were at that time in service and which manufacturer has them?

A Day at East Deerfield - 1982

Hello all,

Observation car railings--where can I get or how can I make them

I need to have a nice wooden observation car or two in my inventory, one of r regular revenue service and private car.  Overall, the Roundhouse cars look pretty good, but the observation car railings are just too thick.  Does anyone have any thoughts on where to get or how to make better ones?  (I'd also consider a different model, but I have the Roundhouse ones on hand.)

Thanks!

Attaching diesel shells to the locomotive frame. Broken P2K Shell Tabs.

Hi everyone,

I bought a P2K SD9 that runs and looks great, but when I bought it, all of the plastic tabs on the shell that held it in place were broke. The shell slides on just fine but is not attached to the frame at all. Have any of you run into this issue with P2K locomotives and if so, what were your solutions to it? Is there a way to keep the shell on while maintaining access to the motor?

Thanks.
