Poughkeepsie NY area - looking for information

Heading to Poughkeepsie/Hyde Park for graduation at the CIA.  Other then railfanning the mains by the Metro North passenger station - and walking the High Bridge (weather permitting) - what railfanning or model railroad options should i know about?

Thanks in advance!

Traveling to western Oregon

Traveling in the western Oregon area next week, any suggestions on hobby shops or prototype railroad locations in that region would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Website Design Help for Railroad Historical Group?

The Washington, Idaho & Montana Ry. History Preservation Group, a non-profit railroad historical society, needs help with our website.  I am posting this here because I believe a number of MRH readers are quite tech/web-savvy and may be in a position to help us out.

Southern Pacific 4449 Video

Here is a video I did in Oregon in 2002 of the Southern Pacific 4449

How are MUed diesel locomotives speed matched?

Having recently spend 3 hours speed matching 2 SD70s of different brands, I started wondering how they do it on the prototype when they MU engines, whether of same or different types. I found surprisingly little information on the subject. Anyone knows?

Do the MU cables provide only notch level or actual speed information?

SP Caboose 374

I was at the Orange Empire RR Museum in Perris CA, and I noticed a SP caboose. I thought I would share it with the SP fans. I am not sure what about the history of this caboose or what years it ran. I thought it would be a good reference for weathering.

Walthers Cantilivers with a switch

Hi there, I have the two Walthers cantilever crossing signals for my grade crossing. The idea is manual operation via an on/off switch. No train detection in either direction and across three tracks operated.

Here is the grade crossing in question:

How are construction debris loaded on to rail cars?

This is spurred from a photo I took a few years ago seen here

U P BRANCH

Does anybody here know anything about the UP branch that runs south from DeKalb Illinois? I know that it runs to LaSalle to service a quarry but that's about all. What else do it serve? Where do trains originate (I'm presuming Proviso). It doesn't seem worth modelling if it only serves one industry.

Maple Leaf Consist

With Rapido coming out with the U-4-b in 2022 I got the itch to model Grand Trunk Western's Maple Leaf.  I am having trouble finding information on what the consist would be for this train in the early 1950's. Does anybody have this information available of where I could find it?  Thanks in advance
