Locos and rolling stock

kitbash a TYCO pulpwood car into a bukhed flat

Alright Gang,

Here is another example of turning a sow's ear into a silk purse.

First, look at what I saw at a model club in Inland NW on a recent visit.

I guess it was convincing enough that I asked one of the members about the Tyco cars. His reply was he didn't know there were any such cars on the layout.

wow this thing is huge

WOW.

i just bought and received in the mail a articulated auto car max. this thing is huge. wont even fit on my turntable, everything else does. (if i owned a big blow it would not). good thing (for now at least) i only want the one.

sorry no photos to post. but it is a athearn unit.

Diesel Labels

Is there a good book available that documents where all of the labels go on first and second generation diesels? Things like "600 Volts", "Fire Extinguisher", and "Fuel Fill". I have a few books that have some scant information, but I haven't found a good book that would be a useful guide for applying the correct decals to my diesels. Most of the photos I've found online from the mid-60s don't show the labels clearly, so I've been going off of the few related RTR models I have.

Scored some brass

Found these at a thrift shop today, I don’t know anything about them.I know they don’t fit in with freight trains..lol

ON30 Prototypes?

I'm curious what the prototypes are for some of Bachmann's On30 equipment (assuming there were actual prototypes).

Specifically, I'm interested in the the center cupola caboose, the tank car, and the 18' cars.

Do any of them have prototypes?

If so, what are they?

(updated) On30 Mogul & 4-6-0 options (early rail)

Dear all,

I am hoping that everyone is having a great summer. I am looking into adding a Mogul or a 4-6-0 next to the couple of Porters that i will have in my On30 small layout (1870s - 1880s, old-West style freelanced, 18" curves if i use a Mogul,  ~20" if a 4-6-0 is chosen).

The idea is to have a Porter haul a mine (ore) run train from a town area (steamboat landing) up to the mines' area and back down to the stamping mill placed a bit beyond (near) the town (or even replace the mill with an ore dock for steamboat transfer of the ore).

Lehigh Valley RS3 Hammer Head Conversion Stewart Chassis or chassis swap?

All,

I'm working on gathering parts for an HO Lehigh Valley RS3 Hammer Head conversion. I have sourced the DA conversion kit for the Stewart Phase 1 Shell.

I'm wondering what the opinions are regarding the Stewart RS3 chassis vs trying to fit the modified shell to an Atlas or other manufacturer's chassis?

Thanks,

Lou Nigro

Using an iPad as a tool to check alignment of decals and such.

I just recently applied brass numerals and tiny decals to one side of a locos's cab.

I take photos just when the glue or decals are wet to double check.

The tiny decals I had to align by eye and keep double checking and adjusting them.

Ack! Weathering catastrophe!

After painstakingly building, painting and decaling this Tichy box car, I sprayed a layer to Testors dullcoat to seal the paint and decals.  When I applied a wash of india ink/ iso alcohol mixture to start weathering, and large patches turned a white and cloudy!  However, only in some places.  This whole side was washed in ink and only the parts shown turned white.  (I did try to wipe it off, but no luck)  I'm not sure what happened, as I've never had this happen before.
