Fine Tuning Autorack Cars

Fine Tuning Autorack Cars

I have been going back and checking sections of track on the bottom deck of my layout in preparation for my FIRST full powered run around the room in a few days (or a week). This has involved soldering up the rail joiners and hooking up all the feeder wires to their bus wires.

I am so sick.

I am so sick. i need help.

I have so much rolling stock, and no place to put it all. so many boxes from A-line. and "other". and many boxes of boxes never opened. and then cars stacked up on "shelves". (aka: n,o,s, decades old).

wont get into motive power.

I am at a point in construction that the rails need to be clear, just to work. and i want to buy more.

Rapido Locomotive Reliability

I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on Rapido's Locomotives QC and reliability?  It seems they have been a bit of a hit or miss, even within a model.  Have things gotten any better?

I was looking at the M420 model.

Leaners

On my HO shelf layout I've noticed a couple of cars that lean ever so slightly out of true moving down the track or sitting on a siding.

I could keep sorting through bolster filing and other modifications, change fiber washers etc. until they ride square; but they're not too bad and they match what I've seen from time to time on the prototype, particularly local short lines so I'm using them as is for now.

How to open Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 Tender?

How do I open the tender of my Rivarossi 2-8-8-2?  The sides flex out a little under thumb pressure, but both ends seem fused.  I have already removed the rear coupler and the assembly that was holding it in place.

Kato parts

Are parts available for Kato HO diesel engines? Yesterday I received in the mail a KATO HO C44-9W CSX Dash 9 that had numerous broken sections of its handrails,...plastic ones.

I recall that there seems to be very limited (or virtually) no replacement/spare parts for our model trains these days? The importers just bring in the engines as a whole, ....but no spare parts??

Anyone suggest a good repair method for these plastic hand rails.

Caboose marker lamp questions

I haven't modeled cabooses (cabeese?) in years because while in N-scale my layout was too modern for them and now I'm just getting around to it in HO. I've acquired three different MDC Roundhouse old time caboose kits off E-bay now and I'm wondering about marker lamps. I love these old kits with a the real wire grab iron and railing bits in them, I wish they still made them.
