Any use for ore cars without a mine?
I have 4 of Tichy's little wooden ore cars, and I love the little beasties. But, I am trying to think of any reason those cars might run in Northern Maine in the 1920's; Maine is not, to put it mildly, a mining state. any possible use, or just save them to run at the train club when we're running whatever we want to put on the tracks?
P2K Steel Center Cupola Caboose Interior
Got one of these off eBay , and it actually has a nice little interior, even the pot bellied stove. For my own self punishment, I'd like to paint it. But I can't figure out how to get that "inner body" structure off of the underframe.
Anyone done this, or know the secret?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
Stem whistle in Jackson georgia
While working in Jackson ga today I heard a steam whistle. The sound came from the downtown area and moved from west to east. Does anyone know if a steam engine went through there today?
Death of a loco due to gear failure; is there a real remedy?
With the number of locomotives that have suffered gear failures of one kind or another (I'm particularly sensitive to failures in Bachmann geared locomotives) I got to wondering if anyone has ever come across a way to have replacement gears fabricated that would not cost one's first-born. NWSL has done a terrific job of trying to address some of these problems but in some cases have had to step away (the Bachmann HO Shay bevel gears are out of production) leaving no alternative I know of but the good will of the original manufacturer (which also expires). There have been
Museum Of Science and Industry Items Being Auctioned Off
I have some news that the Museum of Science and Industry here in Chicago has some items being auctioned off. I am actually quite disappointed at this as they have been there since they opened (I believe). Below are photos of the items and links to the websites. I am not sure what everyone else thinks about this though in my opinion i don't think it should happen. (not that I know what we could do)

Need help determining value of atlas rs-3 locomotive - 4200
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the value of this locomotive. I can't seem to find anything that matches. It is an Atlas RS-3 Locomotive, 4200, undecorated. Road number 2150. Thanks! -- Dave
What is it? Can you ID this car type?
I bought 20 of these in a box at an auction. I have had no luck figuring out what prototype they are supposed to represent. As far as the models they have no manufacturer's mark that I can find. I think it says "Austria" on the underbody so I'm guessing Rivarossi. Pizza cutter wheels in talgo trucks. Looking for the road numbers on photo archive web sites only tells me no one has posted anything in the range of any of the numbers I have on the cars. Any body seen something like this in real life?
