Track detailing after rail is painted

After reading Bill Brillinger's method for painting track and weathering ties I was motivated to get this done on my layout over Thanksgiving Eve and morning. Thanks Bill!

Today and this weekend I plan on drybrushing the ties following an older technique on this forum. I will start with drybrushing a white paint over the top of the ties and us a series other drybrushed colors of washes. Once the ties are finished, what is the best step for adding static grass. Before ballasting or after?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

3 rail diesel service facility

I'm looking for a source for sanding towers, fueling stand, etc., that will service 1-2 tracks on a small Lionel layout with modern day diesel locomotives.

Layout Popup done right

Friend and fellow model railroader Ted Nutting of Loveland, CO has a layout pop up that is about as well done as anything I've ever seen.

What size home-made ballast should I use (with comparison pictures)

OK, I know that some people get pretty vocal on their opinions about the right ballast size, so I hope I'm not opening up a can of worms here, but....

Help needed on Woodland Scenics Glue Spray/Scenic Cement

I have just watched a YouTube movie about fixing down ground foam. he uses a spray bottle of what he calls Scenic Cement. he mentions that it has a built in surface tension breaker. When I check out Scenic Cement, it mentions that it can be spread by a brush.  Is THIS the right stuff?

FORMULA 560 CANOPY GLUE

I'm looking for a glue that adheres painted part to painted part for structure building.   I prefer to paint all component parts first, but have had issues with CA's on painted parts coming loose.  I've seen videos with modelers using Formula 560 Canopy Glue by Pacer adhering painted scenery objects directly to other painted objects of different types/textures on their layouts using this glue.. and it dries clear as well.   Would this glue also work for structure building ?

Shapeways Security Lights. Photos!

I finally got around to ordering these security lights from Shapeways.  I saw a post from someone quite a while back here on MRH about somebody making these in HO scale.  I've said all along that someone is missing the boat by not making this detail that is all over the place in rural areas and on industries.  Shapeways answered but I didn't see follow up from anyone actually purchasing them.  I was quite surprised at the quality of these lights when they arrived.  The light fixture is even hollow in the bottom and inside just like the real ones.

Weathering Tutorial for a Walthers 130' Turntable Parts 1 & 2

Following is a tutorial to weather a Walthers 130' Turntable. Before starting my project I searched the MRH Forum but didn't find any advice and didn't see a similar post. I thought others may find this post useful.              John

Sheet stock

So I know plywood and other wood sheet stock is available in thin sheets of 1/16 or thinner but I can't find any all I find locally is thin basswood and balsa and those are not really stable. I know plywood and other stuff is available because the Laser cutter folks use it but where do they buy it? I have tried local craft stores, hobby shops, doll house stores, wood suppliers and even talked with the folks selling those multi thousand dollar laser cutters and no one knows anything.
