Need suggestions for ballast suppliers/manufacturers

I have already tried Woodland Scenics fine and medium ballasts.

I hate them.

They are too lightweight, get blown, flung, and ticked around the layout and are affected by static electricity. I want something that has some weight and density to it. A real stone product.

I am modeling in HO scale and would like a ballast that is scale in size. Something like a Woodland Scenics "fine" sized ballast.

Road markings

Dear All

I am working on a small gas station scene on my N-scale module Five Feet Creek. In conjunction to this there is naturally a (concrete) road and I need some advice around the road markings.

Time period - around 1960

Geographical region - mid western

Cars must be able to get into the gas station and also in front of the truck there is a road towards the right.

Identifying tree species

Hi,

I'm trying to identify the tree species in these photos of the CSAO railroad lines in New Jersey. Would anyone know or be able to help? I realise the photos aren't focused on the trees and therefore I haven't been able to convince myself I know what species they are. I'd settle for what are likely in this area.

Trying to weather station roof, looking for advice.

I am looking for some advice to further weather the rail station roof shingles. So far I have painted medium primer gray, followed by buffing with a dremel and abrasive pad, followed by individual painting of random single shingles, with some soot runs around or from eyebrow windows , chimney etc. I was considering buffing with a dremel with a light abrasive pad again and light india ink wash.

This is a first attempt at uploading a picture so hopefully it looks ok. You thoughts / input?

European Elevation Drawing Resources.

I am working on putting together a clinic about tunnels - both liners and portals.  In my research I have seen some very interesting UK and German stylized castle tunnel portals, like the one in Bramhope in the UK.  I thought it would be great to build one of these for my clinic.  Bramhope, et. al. are a little more eye catching that a standard issue brick tunnel portal.

Electrical circuit connection ho walthers swing bridge

Hi to all.

Can anyone here give some help about electrical circuit connection for ho walthers swing bridge? I´m talking about  the Universal Gearbox & Motor Drive Kit (933-1050).
The manual is clear about its construction, but does not give me an specific idea how fit it and putting together into the structure.

Thanks, Mario.

Gold Spike Trains on the LaMesa Model Railroad Club

The LaMesa Model Railroad Club in San Diego opened the entire mainline from Bakersfield to Mojave on Aug 29, 2015 after 25 years of working towards this goal. This is about 1,000 feet of new track. The event was celebrated by a Gold Spike ceremony at Tehachapi Summit with a meet between Gold Spike Specials from the AT&SF and the SP. The Santa Fe steamer is 3892 and is the oldest engine on the roster at 50 years of age. It was the first engine owned by one of the club founders and designer of the railroad, Tony Anderson.

How did you attach your brass sand tower?

Attached is a photo of an Overland brass sand tower. I've made some notations on the picture.

May question concerns attaching the tower to the layout.

That flat metal base plate is to be removed. I can't seem to get my head around how to hold that tower in place and steady. If I could find a screw long enough, I'd like to put a washer under the layout and insert the screw up through the layout and attach it that way. Seems like overkill though.

Any thoughts on how others got this thing installed on their own layout?

Looking for good buildings for a boxing gym

I definately plan to have a boxing gym on my layout, and it has to have a big, wide open front so the interior's very vu=isible.  Has anyone built the Cornerstrone Hobby Shop, Simmons 5 and Dime, or Glover's hardware (All the same base, I think)  They have a big plate glass window and are big enough.  Minimum dimentions are 35' by 50', for a ring and workout area--though room for two rings would be better.

A fire station also has possibilities; the fire doors can come off and plate glass go in; that's what my old gym did.
