Technique idea/question/experiment--laminating brick sheets
Lamination experiment
I just bought DPM’s JC Nickels kit, since it has just the storefront I’m looking for. I’m less enamored of the sides and rear—thick plastic, overly heavy window frames, and I’d like a different arrangement of windows and doors. I am planning a full, detailed interior, with some of the walls being exposed brick inside.

Weathering wood structure
I have a structure I am building. It is rather large and tall with it. It is about 25 scale feet square and 28 feet tall and open on two ends. The walls are to be raw wood. I have always used india ink and alcohol combined with some dry brushing to get a nice effect. However I am wondering about the wood that would be inside the structure. It will be seen but since it won't get the brunt of the weather, what color should it be? I don't think raw white of bass wood would be correct. Any ideas? I am attaching a picture of a cardboard mockup of the structure.

1/72 with 1/87?
How terrible would it look to use 1/72 models (In this case vehicles) with the rest of the scene being HO?
Thanks in advance,
Skoti.
Scratchbuild a Coaling Tower
I finally decided to try my hand at scratchbuilding and needed an HO coaling station on my shelf layout. I decided to use the Model Railroader series from 1951-1952 which gives detailed instructions on building a Central Vermont Ry coaling station. I'm at a point in the build where I could use some advice.
Should I scratchbuild stairs or could someone recommend commercial stairs/stringers?
Any recommendations for HO scale chain?
Scale Trees
Several years ago there was a manufacturer called Scale Trees. They still have a website at
But they went into hibernation back in 2004. According to the press release they hoped to come back someday.
But nothing so far.
They had some great tree armatures. They appeared to be made with wire so they were flexible. And they coated the wire with some substance that was flexible and did a great job of looking like bark. But I have never found anything like what they used.

Pilar Valley Railway Alanville Enginehouse
This is still a work in progress. I still have to finish the structure itself along with signs and the many details that still need to be added and weathering of the building. I also have the overhead crane to build yet for the inside of the structure.
This is where I am at right now and a little of how I got to this point.
I started out with the Walthers Railroad Shop kit.

Overland Brass sanding facility
Last spring I picked up an Overland Brass sanding facility at a train show. It was already factory painted a silver/grey color. It came on a brass base for shipping that is fastened to the bottom of everything that needs to be removed before installing.

Modeling a river with two part epoxy
Hey all,
I just finished making my latest tutorial video on making a river, it's basically a detailed guide on making and completing the diorama you can see in the thumbnail and the main highlight is the river running right through the middle.
It took a while to make because I was testing a lot of different materials and techniques for making the river, I decided to go with the method that I found to be the easiest but also the one that had the most realistic results.
