Hand-laying track on a long truss bridge
I'm building a wooden truss bridge and I'm almost to the point of installing the rail. The bridge is about 24" long (170 feet HO scale). I'm using ME code 83 rail. Having never hand laid track, I've got a couple questions:
1) How should I attach the rail to the wooden bridge ties while keeping it centered and in gauge? My plan was to use epoxy and spike every 5th or 6th tie. But centering and gauging the rail in the process has me puzzled.

After track, base coat...
I just finished laying track and wiring this portion of my in-process layout and I'd like to get a base color on the blue foam. The foam drives me nuts. I have an earth brown color I plan to use and will likely just brush paint between the tracks. But, I keep thinking about just painting over everything, track and all, except maybe the switches, and just wiping the track with a rag as I go, maybe just dabbing at the ties to leave much of the brown on them. In my staging yard I brush painted up to the tracks, then spray-bombed the tracks.

Basic Advice Needed on Assembling Plastic Structure Kits
I have a large number of plastic structure kits that I have been collecting since the 80's that I finally have a layout to place them on. I'd appreciate any general, basic advice members have, particularly in terms of adhesives used. I have a love-hate relationship with various forms of super glue. Aside from getting it on my fingers (don't ask me how because I don't know), I have often noticed a white residue that is sometimes present and sometimes not. What adhesives do you use for various purposes?

Almost buried siding/spur
Gents,
I've been searching my bookmarks for a link to something I found online a while back that showed how to make a spur running through something like a construction materials yard (iirc) and the rails are almost buried right up to the top of the rails. Very realistic, There was a structure in the scene too.
I might have seen it here, but if so I haven't found the magic search term. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, much obliged for the link again.
Thanks,
Michael Lee Smith
wp8thsub
I was wondering if Rob Spangler has done any how to videos or articles on his scenery for the wp8thsub. I have recently discovered his blog and related photos. I am totally blown away by the track and ballast work he has done. His ballast and crushed rock is the best I have ever seen, and exactly what i would like to achieve on my railroad. I am currently just starting to paint my track and try ballasting, and I would like to see how Rob does his. I couldn't find any how to stuff by Rob, and I didn't know if i was looking in the wrong place.
Uses for cheap vehicles--under tarps
We all (or almost all) have some dirt-cheap vehicles lying around our scrap box. Some are lousy enough that they aren't even good for the back of the layout, or are from an earlier era. (IMVHO, vehicles from an earlier era need to be NICE models, because they'll attract attention, just like a restoration job attracts attention today on the road, as does a beat up 1950's truck.)

Not railroad related but this excellent 1/12 scale urban structure modeling is really worth a look:

Building the Campbell Howe Truss Bridge
I bought off EBay several years ago this kit. Was told it was complete..well not so. I put the kit up and away till recently and now remember the full size layout plans for the bridge are not in the box. I could use a set ( or photo copy) if anyone has them. Also the exact overall dimensions would aid in construction.
Idea for mounting figures
While looking for a straight razor it occurred to me that all those old blades must be good for something. One happened to have a stack of rare earth magnets attached so a light bulb went off.
A small piece of blade super glued to the feet of a couple of my miniature members was easy enough and a hole drilled into a test board for the magnet shows that this has some promise. I'm thinking that a larger magnet under a station boardwalk would work as well.
