Soundtraxx upgrade offer thru end of June

I've been made aware that Soundtraxx is offering an up-grade program for certain qualifying decoders which appear to be the following (Tsunami Digital Sound Decoder, DSD-150 whatever that is, Wow-soudn, ESU 4.0, QSI, Paragon, MTH and Zimo), up to two upgrades by the end of June:

Used 9 volt batteries

My smoke alarm batteries need changing, But I hate to throw / recycle the old ones.  I checked them with a volt meter and found 8.9 and 9 volts. New ones register 9.2 volts.  I am looking for ideas for uses for the old ones. I do have one powering lights in a model structure. Ever see a flashlight that uses these batteries?

LED for DC block indicator on control board

I'm new to model railroading, less than a year.  I have a DC HO scale setup that is divided into 3 blocks.  I plan to run two trains simultaneous.  I am in the process of making the control panel.  I was able to wire LEDs to indicate direction of travel for the switches.  Now I would like to wire LEDs to indicate which train the block is powered to run.  Since the voltage is variable, how do I wire the LEDs?

What kind of glue is best for roadbed and track laying?

I have seen a couple of materials mentioned for gluing down cork roadbed, as well as gluing down track.  I have seen latex caulk mentioned, as well as Liquid Nails and Elmer's Glue.

Which works best for gluing down cork roadbed?  Which works well for gluing down track?

Do you use something else?

What has been your experience?

By the way, I am working in N-scale (if that makes any difference).

In need of assistance

Hello All,

What is the best wire gauge for n-scale track wiring, including switches?

As I get closer to finishing the benchwork for my n-scale layout, I am gathering materials for laying the track.

One question that has always bothered me, is that of what is the correct wire gauge for track wiring.  I am going to create a wiring buss along the route of my track, with connectors to the track every 3-4 feet.  What gauge wire is best for the buss?  What gauge is best for the connectors to the track?

And, while I'm thinking about it, what is the best gauge for wiring turnout motors?

Problem with Con-Cor MUmP54

Decided to run it on the layout.  Light comes on but it won't run.  No motor hum, no nothing.  The decoder is a Digitrax DZ 143.  I reset CV 8 to 8 to reset the decoder but still no joy; lights are on but neither forward nor backward running.

Any ideas as to what the problem is and how to resolve it?

Unpowered (rather mechanical) Peco Turnout Control

I am getting close to installing the shelfing for my staging tracks,....3 separate areas. In general these staging shelves will be made from ¾ plywood, cantilevered out from the walls, and approx 14 inches in width. They will be located 8” under the main deck level above them (that's 8” top of deck to top of deck).

should there be an (NMRA) wireless standard?

i see some threads mentioning a "wireless standard" that is years away.   The NMRA already has the Layout Control Specification which seems years.   Wireless throttle are already here.

Can anyone date 'fiber tie' flex track?

I recently got a hold of a few lengths of flex track, and within the bunch was a few fiber-tie pieces... Nickel silver!

I grew up with fiber tie brass... and don't recall ever seeing NS... curious how old it is... (Still rather straight, but the ties are dry and brittle.)

The first layout I made had plastic ties - circa 1970... but that date may be a bad guess.
