Track and electrical/DCC

Older Brass Track

I've read several posts about the problems with brass track, and I agree with all the comments. I am in the process of replacing all my brass turnouts, straight, curved and flex track.

Several posts suggested that it would be OK to use brass track in spurs/industrial dead ends where an engine would most likely not be touching the brass track. That sounds good, but my question is, would those brass track dead-end sections cause a degradation in the overall electrical current in the Nickle-Silver sections leading up to the brass track?

Thanks......

Fixing Atlas Custom Line turnouts

Just ran across this interesting subject thread, with photos, of modifying Atlas custom line turnouts,...both shimming the frog flangeways and electrical bridging of those riveted rails.

Keller Engineering OnBoard

Wow,

I got a box of detail stuff at a trainshow today. The price was certainly worth the items I needed and/or wanted, but it has stuff in it that I simply can't use. Namely, a bunch of old Keller Engineering OnBoard System decoders.

It almost is sad to look at these decoders, new in the bag, and realize I am holding someone's unrealized dream. It makes a point about using the things we buy and not just dreaming, unless that is what brings you happiness.

Help needed for DCC install into older Proto 2000 GP18

I have gotten myself an older Proto 2000 GP18 low nose locomotive. I say older as the inner frame is a lot taller with any real type of pc board and or 8 pin type plug. I am a super noob novice for any kind of DCC install but I wanted to go with DCC and Sound for this locomotive. I have searched and my google-fu is lacking because I cannot find many sources for a full dcc and sound install on what I call the "older" weight/frame. Can anyone direct me to a source or instruct me on what or how to approach this install project.

'Cleaning Up' Peco PL10 switch controllers

Has anyone had the occasion to need to 'clean up' older, used Peco PL10 controllers? I got a whole box of them recently that probably came off someones layout, and then set around for quite awhile. Some work perfectly smooth, and others are the slightest bit stiff.

Could they be soaked in something, then left to dry out totally before use.?,....something like that CRC electronic cleaner??

How can I keep my track clean?

What is the best way to keep my track clean after I have cleaned it?

Users of Micro Engineering Ladder system

I downloaded the templates of the ladder system and printed them out.  I verified that the template lengths were correct.  When I placed the templates on the layout, I get track spacing of 1 &13/16ths not the recommended spacing.

For those who have installed the system, what have I missed or done wrong?

Thanks...Ken

Broadway Limited -- Rolling Thunder Track Power Cable

I have the BLI Paragon 3 Rolling Thunder Subwoofer and receiver, and all of the cables -- EXCEPT ONE.

The track power cable.

I can find ZERO documentation on this mysterious cable, no photos of what it looks like, or where it plugs into the RT receiver. My guess is that is plugs into the 3.x mm jack on the front as there is only a power cable and the RCA connection to the sub.

Anyone have any information on this thing?

Flux for frogs

Saw SOMEWHERE a new flux for soldering leads to frogs, especially MEWS. ANYBODY remember what that was?

Block detection using CTs with Twisted Bus wiring

Apparently  twisted bus wiring creates current within itself, am I going to have an issue using CTs for block detection?  Mark Gurries website states it will however I believe he is talking about Digitrax detection.
