NMRA Standards gage
What are the differences among the HO NMRA Standards gage for their Mark IV, Mark IVb and Mark V. Is it primarily the clearances for the period modeling (Early/Transition/Modern). Which would be best for the 70's/80's?

Help in identifying a Soundtraxx decoder
I am working on a steam loco for a good friend of mine. I have both visually inspected the installed the decoder and attempted to identify it with my Pi-Sprog running JMRI 4.14.
DecoderPro identifies it as a Soundtraxx decoder but identifies every decoder made as a potential. Visually it is purple shrink wrapoed with no external identifying markings.
Wiring 8 Pin Decoder to 9 Pin
Hello, I have been trying to find this out but my internet research is failing me so I thought it was worth a shot to ask here.
Grinding noise from Athearn BB after installing DCC & LED's
I have several Athearn Blue box Locomotives from an S12 switcher to a 9-44. The ran fine on DC. After installing a DCC decoder and LED lights and replacing the shell they make a loud grinding noise when runnung in either direction. I have removed the shell and do not see anything touching the motor, flywheels or driver shafts. Also, if I run the loco with the shell remove there is no noise. It seems to be noise transmitted from the frame to the shell. Any suggestions on how to quiet the noise.

NCE PowerCab - how to toggle momentum on/off ?
On the NCE PowerCab throttle, what button combination is equivalent to “15” on the proprietary TCS throttle? It toggles between momentum and no momentum.
Blinking ditch lights
Finally had a chance to play with one of my own Decoder Buddys. Here's what I came up with.
I built a test board out of the connector board to see if I could emulate a NS locomotive.
Switch stand targets
I use the Caboose Industries 204S switch stands on my S scale layout. They have plenty of throw for S scale and look decent when weathered. I don't like the plastic targets that come with them and have to be glued to their wire staff so I make new targets from thin brass sheet and .028 brass wire. I made a simple jig to hold the pieces while soldering them. The brass wire is nice as it will bend if hit and lessen the strain on the plastic stand.
Atlas SD35 decoder trouble
I have an Atlas SD35 with factory decoder. I am unable to get full speed from the locomotive when using DCC. While using DC I can get full speed. I have reset the decoder to factory settings with no luck. I have tried setting starting voltage mid voltage and Max voltage all with no luck. I have tried different speed curves on JMRI no luck. Everything else with the decoder works fine. I'm at a loss and can't think of anything else to try. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Walthers WiFlyer - how are they doing this?
Got one of my many weekly emails from Walthers today, and the top item intrigued me - "WiFlyer Express" - details are light, but it sounds like they're integrating WiFi into their train sets.
Here is the ad: http://click.walthers.com/v/z03c2Hi0000Okpx3Fcb0X00 (I expect they'll wonder why I'm opening my email from them from all over the world)
Need help wiring a DCC reverse loop!
I would like this yard to have automatic electrical reverse loop for DCC and future JMRI operation. My first question is whether each track needs an automatic reverser.
