Track and electrical/DCC
retro-fitting electrical gaps
Our club is now pondering the idea of installing current detectors and signals. We know fundamentally how to do it; I built a test layout and it's working there. However, in that case it was pretty obvious how to get the blocks separated: put in plastic rail joiners where appropriate and Bob's your uncle. It's trivial to do when you're installing the track. BUT... the track at the club is already laid down, and much of it has been recently overhauled for reliability purposes.
SMD LED sources/prices?
I'm working on some 3D designs for some step and truck lights for my 1/29 locomotives. I figured if you HO scale guys can have working lights, I should be able to as well in 3x scale..
My design so far looks like a 0805 SMD LED will fit nicely into the housing.
Where are folks finding SMD LED's and what's a good price? I'd prefer them with wires presoldered. Ebay showed a variety of pricing and options but I'm not sure what is a good deal, etc.

24" Radius Rerailer Track
Just wondering, has anyone tried making a 24" radius curved rerailer out of those multiple commercial 18" inchers,....maybe cut little slits in the inner curve of the plastic and spread it apart just a bit. Then replace the rail itself with good quality nickle silver if necessary.
I may give this a try as I have 2 spots at the entrance to my staging yards where I would like to have such an item,...and I have a number of those old 18" inchers to experiment with.

Cornhill and Atherton - Good support from TCS
I thought I would share a curious experience I had with a TCS Wow steam decoder and JMRI.

Thank You Geoff Bunza
Thank you Geoff Bunza.
I have been reading some of your Blog posts. I am currently using DCC++ and wish to automate my turnouts (52) and turntables (2).
I looked through your blog and have flagged 12 of your 35 projects. Over the next few months, I will be studying those 12 with an eye to using them on my own layout.
Thank you sir, for sharing all your hard work, it is much appreciated bu this rookie Model Rail Automator.
Frog Juicers?
Since only one locomotive will make contact with one frog at a time, as it runs through the frogs of a multiple turnouts, why can't a single Frog Juicer be used to control polarity of multiple turnout frogs?

Best new DCC throttle
I have an ESU CabControl system and I am not thrilled with the throttle. The battery is weak and the there is always something going goofy with the program. Just last night, somehow one of the consists just disappeared from the screen and I couldn't find it.

Resistance Soldering Track Jointers
I'm laying a bunch of track and turnouts in my staging areas (6 tracks around the room & 6 tracks down the center). There are a lot of track jointers (and DCC feed wires) to be attached to the tracks.
DCC - Wireless help for an old head.
Good evening all,
Looking for a good option to run wirelessly on my layout. The issue I have is there is no internet or wifi out in the garage. I really do not want to run it out there either just for a train layout. Being an old head I am just not there yet.
I tried the NCE throttles but really did not like using them and at the cost I really hope to find an option or two.
I do have a NCE command station.
Suggestions are appreciated.
