Fast Tracks Turnouts

Ok, so I'm planning and getting ready to start a new model railroad based on the Milwaukee Road's Beer Line. A guy at my LHS recommended Fast Tracks for my turnouts. After listening to him and going through the site, I'm just about sold on using them. Question: Since the ties are wood, how does this affect ballasting? As in soaking the ballast putting down the diluted white glue? How does one avoid warping or distortion, or does this just not happen?

Frog Gapping using MRH Sept, 2011 CVT Jig

I am making turnouts using the Sept, 2011 MRH article as a guide. The frog is gapped between PC ties 1 and 2, and 4 and 5. I can see how this isolates the frog, but I would think that the A rail of 1 diverging route is connected to the B rail of the other diverging route where the 2 rails that make the frog and beyond the gap join at the #1 PC tie. I did not see any instruction to gap the PC board at this location.

Hope this description is enough to illustrate the problem. If not, I can try to add annotated pictures.

looking for ideas - wiring miniature toggles DPDT/ SPDT,Etc.

anyone have any tricks to wiring these miniatures?  Have my desktop magnifier with light, vise to hold them, and low heat (30W soldering iron) and very small diameter solder   The jaws of my vise are long enough that I can put 5 of them in to daisy chain the +'s & -'s but clearances for terminals are really tight (I have always used the standard size toggles).

what i do is: put toggles in vise - nail file each of the toggles terminals then lightly tin, then lightly tin each wire, install in terminal hole and quick reheat & solder

Walthers cornerstone crossing signals, install

I searched for info on installing these crossing lights. Seems walthers only had these made for their DC detection circuit. Has anyone installed them on a DCC layout? I will be supplying a seperate DC supply and not track power. All help appreciated. thanks. Tom

Need Ideas - wiring DC turnouts

Hi Folks -- In the process of wiring typical 3 wire turnout motors- Looking for some ideas - Here's mine, and also some thoughts:

1.) For the Ground wire- a sort of "common Ground " for when their are groups of turnouts in a certain area-- this way saving on wire and improving on "under the table" look - reducing the amount of wire to be run (i.e) In a yard use a common ground and then you're only dealing with primarily running 2 wires instead of 3

Signaling System Consideration

Anyone have practical experience with this signaling control? It looks like it fits the bill well for what I want to achieve.

Good, bad, indifferent?
