Benchwork and roadbed
Conduit for track feeder wires
I'm at the point in construction where I'm ready to start attaching track to roadbed. Prior to setting down the track I'll solder feeder wires to each segment. Once set in place I'll drill holes on either side of the track to drop feeder wire to the bus. Subroadbed is 2" of foam on top of 3/8" ply.
I was thinking of using either Plastruct styrene tubing or plain old aquarium tubing for a conduit through the subroadbed and running the wire through the conduit. Does anyone have experience using aquarium tubing?
Thanks.

Module Rotisserie
I watched the "Back to the Basement" TMTV video with Miles Hale that showed his module rotisserie. I thought that was a great idea so I made one. I also made a 2' x 8' module to hang on it. JoeF mentions the TOMA concept and the 2x6 module. That size doesn't work for me in my layout space but a couple 2x8 modules do. I'm actually starting my first model railroad!
Roadbed in yards
All,
What is your favorite and least costly form of track roadbed for yards? I ask this question with these considerations....
- 3 levels of yards
- plywood (before roadbed and track) is 16 inches apart in height.
- I have 22" deep to cover for 8 yard tracks and 1 or 2 main lines on each level
- those 8 yard tracks are about 32 to 35' not counting turnouts
If it helps I really like the caulk idea for securing the track so nails are not a factor.
Removable end sections for a shelf layout?
Hey all. I've been away from the hobby for a few years, slowly been getting back into things, and planning a small shelf layout to give myself something to work on.
Which forum covers layout room lighting?
Which forum covers lighting?
I had a place on my chain saw that needed some lighting. Most of the layout is lit with 48" T12 w/1 4000k and 1 6500k tube in each fixture. I like the look of the light and plan to use this scheme to light up the "Big One".
I took the plunge and decided to try the PDC Mike Rose led boards.
Two reasons:
1. space constraints. There was not enough room for another 48" T12 fixture.
Seams in 2" pink foam boards
I'm using 2" pink foam board on a new layout 4 - 2 X6 in an U shape. Question what to do with seams and also surface levels between modules, getting with in 1/16-1/32", what do you use to smooth out gaps between modules ? The foam has some irregularities front to back at the seams, do have level legs and carriage bolts between modules.
Thanks Zeke

"Cátia's Branchline" Benchwork... doubts!
Hi all.
I have come to a halt on my layout, because I am full of doubts, and I hope that you could help me clear my mind.
I made the benchwork for my around the walls shelf layout using 1 x 2 (sort of) lumber, and placed a nice subroadbed made out of plywood. But I am having second thoughts about this.

How to simulate concrete in a roundhouse?
How do you raise the flat area to be level with the top of flextrack?
There are several areas where the rail head should be level with the ground.
I would rather avoid lots of plaster and instead use some sort of sheetstock.

How do I make a good backdrop foundation?
Hi all!
I'm starting the construction of my new layout. The 22' x 15' room is in the back of my garage.
The walls are brick with a plastered surface, but the surface has some repairs and is a bit uneven....
I have mostly dismissed the use of masonite as it moves too much with changes in humidity and temperature.
I have not the funds for using linoleum.... it would cost well over $1500.
I have considered using repair fibreglass wallpaper?!? But I'm not sure it will work.
Any ideas?
