Chicago Northside Layout S L O W L Y comes to life
A long time ago I'd asked for input on a layout design. I'd taken it all into consideration and quietly worked on it in the background. Finally trains started moving yesterday and everything seems to be working well. Here's an update as a way to say thank you to everyone who helped me get this far and an encouragement to all you who are slowly working on your layout. Don't give up!

Over weight rail car? Is this guy wrong?
CAPY 80000
LD LMT 81700
LT WT 54300
Is it a total of 81700+54300 = 136000 max on scale
or is it
81700-54300 = 27400 for load with a max of 81700 on scale?
What I understand is
LD LMT is the total load the car can hold, CAPY is the design load. Car designed hold 80000 of widgets. But it might be over stuffed to 81700 of widgets.
Finishing works on scratch built wooden platform early 1900s
Signs, posters, railings and figures.. About complete now.. Here´s a video how-to build it:
Anyone been to Boston Abbey in Uk btw? I would guess the platform doesn´t look like this nowadays?
A couple Central American Railroads
Finally getting around to this. We took a cruise through the new Agua Clara locks of the Panama canal (on the Caribbean Princess) a couple weeks back. I was able to observe a train in Panama as we came out of the locks back into the Caribbean Sea. While in Costa Rica, we also took a ride on the Banana Train - a railroad with a very interesting history. Didn't take a lot of pictures, but I've got a few.
A Visit to Neil Erickson's Umauma Railway!
Today my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting Neil Erickson's Umauma Railway ( Neil's Blog ) just outside of Hilo Hawaii. Neil is a long time friend from this forum and this is the sixth of my MRH Friends layouts we have been able to visit.
After a picturesque drive down UP the backroads outside of Hilo, we arrived at Neil's farm. It's a quaint location not far from the coast, in an area that used to be vast sugar cane fields.
Traveling around the USA looking at 1:1 and looking at and running some 1:87.
Hello All,
The Longmont sugar mill build starts
So can a paper scratch build paper model look like a prototype sugar mill? Sean Glavin one of the crew members finished one part of the Longmont sugar mill.....the warehouse and loading dock this is made from paper not only paper but the out side brick and awning and concrete dock is made from printed paper. I have never work with this media till the 2016 NMRA convention the shed in front of the loading dock is also paper. Sean have done quite a few for his layout. Next time you look at a project you might give paper a try.
Thanks Sean great job.
Mike
